PHLEBOTOMIST POSITION SUMMARY
A Phlebotomist performs laboratory services as ordered by a physician or qualified practitioner within the capabilities of the facility.
PHLEBOTOMIST MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Certified by professional organization in the state Subject to initial and ongoing security clearance requirements Must have at least 1 year of experience as a phlebotomistAcute care experience preferred
- Gather medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags, and test tubes
- Explain blood draw procedures with patients Verify patient information and labeling blood samples properlyAdheres to Universal Precaution procedures and established Infection Control procedures
- Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills Is proficient with CPR and recognizes the need to implement it. Receive re-certification training annually Assists in cleaning, sterilizing, and securing equipment Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications
