Job Description

  • POSITION PURPOSE
    • Under the direction and supervision of the GI Registered Nurse, the Endoscopy Tech Specialist will assist the physician with endoscopy procedures and assists RN with the collection of patient data and specimens.
    • The Endoscopy Tech Specialist may also perform the following tasks such as: assisting in pre-procedure and post–procedure care, taking vital signs, and scope washing. Complies with established standards and procedures.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
    • High School diploma or GED.
    • Certification of CNA, LPN, Surgical Tech, or Medical Assistant and/or specialized training through the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associated (SGNA).
  • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
    • Entry Level
  • LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
    • Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
    • The physical ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, push and lift, reach in accordance with patient care.
    • Ability to read, write, hear, speak and comprehend the English language.
    • The physical, technical, and cognitive ability as well as the manual dexterity to use patient equipment.
    • Ability to perform under stressful situations.
  • PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Prepares room with proper equipment for scheduled procedure prior to patient entering suite.
    • Adheres to universal protocols for a safe procedure such as identifying right patient for right procedure, time out and other aspects within their scope.
    • Provides pre-, intra- and post-procedure care.
    • Assists physician and RN with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures and handling of specimens.
    • Assists with patient positioning.
    • Operates health care equipment.
    • Documents basic elements of the procedure.
    • Communicates observations to RN and team as appropriate.
    • Follows standard precautions and infection control practices.
    • Adheres with hospital/department policies and procedures.
    • Other duties as assigned.
