Assistant Professor, Cardiovascular Medicine in Galveston, Texas at University of Texas Medical Branch

Position Summary:

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor for a joint academic appointment that will strengthen interdisciplinary cardiovascular research. The position will devote 80% effort to the Sealy Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and the Sealy Heart & Vascular Institute (SHVI), with a secondary 20% appointment in the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science within the School of Public and Population Health (SPPH).
The Cardiovascular Medicine and SHVI effort will focus primarily on research and scholarly activity, with a limited component supporting quality improvement, AI-enabled clinical operations, and education. The SPPH effort will focus primarily on teaching and related academic activities that advance the educational mission of the School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and apply artificial intelligence approaches in cardiovascular disease and clinical operations, including opportunistic screening and large language models.
• Produce peer-reviewed publications and develop extramural grant applications that advance cardiovascular research.
• Build interdisciplinary collaborative research programs across Cardiovascular Medicine, SHVI, SPPH, and other academic partners.
• Conduct research using the Galveston Heart Study and its associated sub-studies.
• Lead and support research involving remote patient monitoring, wearable technologies, digital health, and other emerging approaches to cardiovascular care.
• Develop selected quality-improvement initiatives and implement AI-enabled tools to improve cardiovascular clinical operations, care delivery, and patient outcomes.
• Teach and participate in academic activities within the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science in support of the SPPH educational mission.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in a discipline relevant to cardiovascular research, biostatistics, data science, population health, or a related field.
• Academic credentials and scholarly accomplishments appropriate for appointment as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at UTMB.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous, collaborative, data-driven research.
• Record of scientific productivity, including peer-reviewed publications.
• Strong communication, teaching, organizational, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Expertise in artificial intelligence, large language models, advanced analytics, or data science applications in cardiovascular health.
• Experience with population cardiovascular health, clinical quality improvement, implementation science, or translational research.
• Experience with longitudinal cohort studies, including research comparable to the Galveston Heart Study.
• Experience with remote patient monitoring, wearable technologies, or digital health research.
• Demonstrated success in extramural grant development and interdisciplinary academic collaboration.

Appointment will be at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level, consistent with the approved faculty workforce request and institutional appointment criteria.

SALARY:
Commensurate with experience.
