Quality Engineer Position SummaryThe Quality Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring product quality and manufacturing success by leading the inspection planning and product onboarding process for new parts. This position is responsible for developing measurement plans, creating bubble prints, programming CMMs using Calypso, performing first article inspections, completing AS9102 documentation, and supporting production teams in troubleshooting dimensional and process-related issues.
The Quality Engineer serves as the bridge between customer requirements, inspection strategy, and manufacturing execution. By leveraging strong GD&T knowledge, machining experience, and advanced metrology skills, this individual helps ensure parts are launched successfully and consistently meet customer expectations.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on machining knowledge with advanced quality engineering and CMM programming expertise and thrives in a fast-paced, high-mix manufacturing environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesNew Product Introduction & Inspection Planning- Lead quality onboarding activities for new products
- Create bubble prints and detailed measurement plans for new and existing parts
- Determine appropriate inspection methods, gages, and measurement strategies
- Develop and maintain inspection documentation and standards
- Review customer drawings, specifications, and quality requirements prior to production release
- Create and maintain Calypso CMM programs from customer drawings and CAD models
- Develop efficient measurement routines for first article and production inspections
- Validate CMM programs and inspection methods prior to production release
- Support troubleshooting of measurement methods and inspection equipment
- Operate CMMs and other advanced inspection equipment as required
- Perform first article inspections and first piece approvals
- Complete AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports
- Support PPAP submissions and customer-specific quality documentation requirements
- Conduct capability studies and statistical analysis when required
- Support implementation and maintenance of SPC methodologies
- Work directly with machinists to troubleshoot dimensional and process-related issues
- Provide guidance on offsets, inspection methods, tooling impacts, and process adjustments required to achieve conforming parts
- Assist production teams in interpreting prints, tolerances, and GD&T requirements
- Train and mentor machinists on inspection techniques, measurement strategy, and interpretation of customer requirements
- Participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions
- Respond to customer quality inquiries, corrective action requests, and audit activities
- Identify opportunities to improve inspection efficiency, measurement repeatability, and process capability
- Develop standardized measurement strategies and best practices
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Assist with measurement system analysis and gage studies as needed
- Associate degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Technology, or related field preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Calypso programming experience required
- Minimum 3 years of manufacturing quality experience preferred
- Prior machining experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation
- Experience creating measurement plans and first article documentation
- Experience completing AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports
- Experience programming and operating CMM equipment
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with machinists, engineers, customers, and management
- Prior CNC machining experience in a job shop environment
- Experience with PPAP submissions
- Experience conducting capability studies
- Experience implementing or supporting SPC programs
- Experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Experience supporting customer audits and quality system requirements
- CAD software experience (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
