Job Summary:
The Junior Accountant supports the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Billing, and Tax functions within AFD. This role is responsible for assisting with day-to-day accounting operations, including invoice processing, cash application, and financial data preparation. The Junior Accountant will also support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual fuel tax filings, while ensuring accurate and up-to-date customer tax exemption information within the ERP system. This is a developmental role focused on building foundational accounting and tax knowledge through hands-on experience and support of the Finance team
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Full-Time, In-Office

What you will do day-to-day:
Tax & Compliance Support
- Gather, compile, and reconcile data required to support fuel tax filings and refund requests.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of fuel tax returns and remittances.
- Investigate discrepancies in tax data and escalate issues as required.
- Reconcile fuel tax-related general ledger accounts and prepare supporting documentation.
- Maintain and update customer tax exemption records, including regional and product-specific requirements.
Accounts Receivable Support
- Assist with cash application, daily deposits, and balancing A/R batches.
- Investigate and help resolve customer account discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate customer account records.
Accounts Payable Support
- Assist with invoice verification, data entry, and processing of vendor invoices.
- Support payment processing and ensure proper documentation is maintained.
Billing Support (Backup Responsibility)
- Provide backup support for billing functions, including invoice preparation and data verification.
- Assist with resolving billing discrepancies and responding to internal inquiries.
General Accounting & Reporting
- Assist in preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting working papers.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Compile data and assist with internal reporting and ad hoc analysis.
- Maintain organized and accurate financial records for audit and review purposes.
Team Support
- Assist the Controller and other accounting team members with day-to-day operations.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Other related duties as required or assigned.
What you need to succeed:
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Post-Secondary Degree in Accounting, or Business preferred.
- Accounting experience is preferred.
Experience
- 2+ years’ experience in an accounting, finance, or tax-related role.
- Experience dealing with government regulatory matters would be beneficial.
Other Skills (knowledge)
- Professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Excel
- Working knowledge of MS Business Central is preferred or other ERP System
- Professional written and verbal communication skills.
