Job Description

Senior Software Engineer, Consumer Engineering

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Consumer Engineering based in United States.

This is a senior backend engineering role focused on building and scaling products used across large, highly engaged online communities. You will work at the intersection of distributed systems, consumer product experiences, and high-scale user journeys. The role partners closely with Product Managers, Designers, Data Scientists, ML Engineers, and client-side engineers to turn product ideas into reliable technical solutions. You will own major initiatives end to end, from architecture and API design through deployment, experimentation, and observability. Your work will influence how users discover content, participate in communities, connect with others, and engage with digital products. The environment values technical rigor, experimentation, collaboration, and the ability to move quickly while maintaining reliability at scale.

Accountabilities:
  • Partner with Product Management, Product Design, Data Science, and iOS, Android, and Web engineers to translate user and business needs into reliable, low-latency backend solutions that support high-quality consumer experiences.
  • Own the full software development lifecycle for major product initiatives, including technical design documents, API contracts, implementation, testing, deployment, rollout, monitoring, and ongoing optimization.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate A/B experiments in collaboration with product and data teams, using behavioral, conversion, retention, and engagement metrics to guide engineering and product decisions.
  • Build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using technologies such as GraphQL, REST, and gRPC, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, maintainability, and efficient client consumption.
  • Contribute to engineering best practices, improve development workflows, and adopt modern and AI-assisted engineering tools to increase delivery efficiency while maintaining high technical standards.
  • Mentor other engineers, contribute to technical direction, and help establish patterns and practices that support scalable development across consumer-facing product teams.
  • Work across high-impact areas such as content discovery, feeds, community experiences, creator tools, authentication, notifications, onboarding, social sharing, conversion, account management, and trust and safety.
Requirements:
  • Bring 5+ years of hands-on backend software development experience, including experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in high-concurrency environments.
  • Demonstrate strong proficiency in a modern backend programming language such as Go or Python, with experience in Java, Kotlin, Rust, or C++ considered relevant.
  • Have strong expertise designing and maintaining scalable APIs and backend services using GraphQL, REST, and/or gRPC for web and native mobile applications.
  • Bring experience working with high-throughput caching systems and distributed data stores such as Redis, Cassandra, and PostgreSQL.
  • Demonstrate a user-centric and product-oriented mindset, with the ability to understand usability, interaction patterns, social dynamics, growth loops, and the broader impact of technical decisions on end users.
  • Be comfortable working in a hypothesis-driven, data-informed environment, partnering with Product Managers and Data Scientists to define metrics, design experiments, analyze results, and iterate based on user behavior and feedback.
  • Be self-directed and comfortable navigating ambiguity, balancing rapid product delivery with system reliability, scalability, and long-term technical quality.
  • Have excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of driving alignment across multidisciplinary teams in remote or hybrid environments.
  • Demonstrate experience or strong interest in AI-assisted engineering tools and modern development workflows that can accelerate software delivery.
Benefits:
  • Base salary range of $190,000–$267,000 USD, depending on factors such as skills, experience, credentials, role level, and location.
  • Eligibility for equity in the form of restricted stock units and, depending on the position offered, potential eligibility for commission.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for U.S.-based employees.
  • 401(k) program with employer match.
  • Generous paid time off for vacation and other personal needs.
  • Parental leave designed to support employees and their families.
  • Opportunities to work on large-scale consumer products and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering, product, data, design, and machine learning teams.
  • Equal opportunity employment practices and reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities and disabled veterans throughout the hiring process.
