Job Description
Position Summary:
The Cardiovascular Sonographer is responsible for performing all types of procedures within his/her section of the Department. Additional duties include staff development, new employee orientation, and participation in the planning processes within the Department.
Education:
High school diploma with two or more years of Cardiac and/or Vascular Ultrasound experience, or; minimum of a two (2) year degree from an AMA accredited college, or; completion of an accredited certification program in Cardiovascular Ultrasound. Certification in basic cardiac life support is required upon hire or transfer to the department.
Training and Experience:
Eligible in at least one of the two of the following specializations:
- CV Technology – RVT (non-invasive, echo, and/or vascular)
- Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography – RDCS (adult and/or pediatric)
Job Knowledge:
The preferred candidate will have extensive knowledge of all diagnostic procedures performed within the CV Sonography section. Strong knowledge of indications and contraindications for all procedures performed within the CV Sonography section. Basic knowledge of all diagnostic procedures performed within the Department. Fluency in English required; bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
A.Possible exposure to pathogenic organisms, hazardous or toxic chemicals, and ionizing radiation.
B.Possible need to function satisfactorily within a stressful environment.
C.Work hours may exceed forty hours per week with irregular duty hours likely.
D.May need to lift, turn or position patients in order to optimize a particular procedures outcome.
