Job Description
Do you see a quality problem and immediately want to know why it happened?
Do you enjoy getting out on the production floor, looking at the process yourself, talking to the people doing the work, and figuring out how to prevent the problem from happening again?
MasterMold is looking for Quality Engineers to join our Mauston team on both 1st and 2nd shift.
At MasterMold, quality isn't about checking a box or simply documenting that something went wrong. It's about understanding the process, protecting our customers, and finding practical solutions that make the operation better.
This is not a “clipboard quality” position.
You’ll be expected to go where the work is happening, investigate issues firsthand, ask questions, work with Production and Engineering, use data and measurement tools to understand what is happening, and help turn quality concerns into sustainable improvements.
You don't need to know everything on day one. You do need to be curious, technically minded, willing to learn, comfortable speaking up, and motivated to take ownership when something needs attention.
If you see a problem and your first instinct is to figure out why it happened and what we can do about it, we want to talk to you.
What You’ll DoAs a Quality Engineer, you will serve as a technical quality resource for the Mauston facility. You'll work across Quality, Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and leadership to solve problems and strengthen our manufacturing processes.
Own PPAP & Core Quality Documentation- Create, update, and maintain PPAP documentation, Control Plans, PFMEAs, process flow diagrams, inspection instructions, quality alerts, and related quality documentation.
- Support product launches, engineering changes, customer submissions, and ongoing manufacturing quality requirements.
- Ensure quality documentation accurately reflects what is actually happening in the manufacturing process.
- Help maintain effective process controls and identify when documentation or processes need to change.
You won't be limited to reviewing someone else's inspection results.
- Perform dimensional inspections, part layouts, and product evaluations.
- Use FARO Arm, KEYENCE systems, gauges, fixtures, and other precision measurement equipment.
- Apply GD&T principles to evaluate product conformance.
- Help determine whether a quality concern is isolated or points to a larger process issue.
- Work directly with Production and Engineering when measurements or product conditions don't match expectations.
Finding a defect is only the beginning.
We want our Quality Engineers asking:
What happened?
Why did it happen?
Where did the process break down?
How do we prevent it from happening again?
You will:
- Investigate recurring defects and manufacturing quality concerns.
- Lead or support root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Support containment activities when immediate action is necessary.
- Work directly with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality to develop practical solutions.
- Follow corrective actions through to completion rather than stopping once the problem has been identified.
- Identify opportunities to reduce scrap, improve consistency, and strengthen process capability.
- Help teams understand the “why” behind quality requirements.
You’ll help support and continuously improve our quality systems in alignment with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 requirements.
Responsibilities may include:
- Internal audits
- Layered process audits
- Corrective actions
- Risk-based thinking
- Process controls
- Continuous-improvement activities
- Customer-specific requirements
- Document control
- Manufacturing quality standards
We aren't looking for someone who simply knows the terminology. We want someone who understands why these systems exist and can help translate those requirements into effective practices on the production floor.
Use Data to Make Better DecisionsQuality decisions should be supported by facts.
You'll track inspection results, analyze defect and quality trends, and use data to help determine where attention is needed.
You will:
- Analyze quality and inspection data.
- Identify trends and recurring problems.
- Support data-driven root-cause investigations.
- Measure the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Help translate technical quality information into something Production and leadership can act on.
- Identify opportunities for measurable process improvement.
Technical knowledge matters for this position—but so does how you approach a problem.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is naturally curious and wants to understand why something happened.
- Notices details others may miss.
- Doesn't stop at identifying a problem.
- Is willing to get out on the production floor and investigate firsthand.
- Takes ownership and follows through.
- Can respectfully challenge a process when something doesn't make sense.
- Uses data and facts to make decisions.
- Can balance technical requirements with practical manufacturing realities.
- Communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical employees.
- Is willing to ask questions when they don't know something.
- Can work independently while still collaborating effectively across departments.
- Wants to continuously learn and improve.
We can teach you our products and processes. What we're looking for is someone who brings the curiosity, technical foundation, accountability, and drive to learn them.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred. Equivalent manufacturing quality experience will also be considered.
- Two or more years of experience in manufacturing quality engineering, quality technician, process engineering, or a related technical quality role preferred.
- Experience with GD&T interpretation, dimensional inspection, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and quality documentation.
- Experience with FARO Arm or similar dimensional measurement equipment preferred.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems required.
- Experience with IATF 16949 strongly preferred.
- Experience with PPAP, Control Plans, PFMEA, process flow diagrams, and related quality documentation preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to balance production-floor support with documentation and project responsibilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and quality data-management systems.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are strongly preferred.
We are currently hiring Quality Engineers for both 1st and 2nd shift at our Mauston facility.
Candidates should indicate their preferred shift when applying. Specific schedules and shift expectations will be discussed during the interview process.
What Success Looks LikeSuccess isn't measured by how many defects you find.
It's measured by what happens after you find them.
We want you to become someone the operation can rely on when something doesn't make sense—someone who can look at the product, process, measurements, documentation, and data and help connect the dots.
Over time, you should understand our manufacturing processes well enough to recognize risks before they become larger problems, help teams make better decisions, and drive improvements that actually stick.
Why MasterMold? One of the advantages of working for a smaller manufacturing company is that your work is visible.
You aren't one engineer buried several layers away from the manufacturing process. You'll work directly with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and leadership, and you'll have the opportunity to see how your work affects the operation.
You'll also have hands-on exposure to quality and inspection technology, including FARO arms, KEYENCE systems, 3D printers, and other advanced inspection equipment.
If you have the drive to learn and grow, there is room to expand your knowledge well beyond the boundaries of a traditional Quality Engineer position.
Bring ideas. Ask questions. Learn the process. Help us make it better.

Benefits may include:

Ready to Make an Impact? If you're looking for a Quality Engineer position where you can sit behind a desk all day and review reports, this probably isn't it.
If you want to understand how things are made, investigate real manufacturing problems, work directly with the people and processes involved, and see the impact of the solutions you help create, we'd like to hear from you.
You don't have to know everything on day one.
Bring the technical foundation, curiosity, ownership, and drive. We'll help you learn the rest.
