POSITION DETAILS

Part-time with benefits; 48 hours in the two week pay period on the every other weekender program; Monday through Friday 5-6 evening shifts from approximately 4:30pm to 9:30pm per the two week pay period and every other Saturday and Sunday approximately 8:30am to 4:30pm paid at time and a half (must adhere to the weekender plan guidelines).

JOB SUMMARY

Participates in health care planning to meet the total needs of patients in Urgent Care Services ranging in age from pediatric to geriatric, who may present at any point on the continuum from minor illness/injury to wellness.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTION

1. Documents on the patient record. Utilizes accepted charting practices to include approved abbreviations and legible handwriting.
2. Assists with ensuring that there is an appropriate level if inventory and equipment to meet the needs of the daily operations of the department.
3. Assists with departmental housekeeping tasks as needed as well as cleaning and care of equipment.
4. Provides quality care to all patients to ensure physical and emotional comfort while assuring a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, visitors and staff.
5. Takes and records vital signs, assists in preparing patients for examinations as needed.
6. Observes symptoms, reactions and changes in patient’s condition and reports such to the Urgent Care nurse, physician or LIP.
7. Communicates pertinent information regarding departmental issues and concerns to the ED Director, ED Coordinator or other appropriate person(s).
8. Performs clerical duties including as needed by the department, this will include but not be limited to answering phone calls or processing patient documents.

10. Performance will be monitored by nursing and the Medical Director of the Emergency Department for quality improvement purposes.
11. Assists nursing/providers to meet patients and family’s health education needs by reinforcing teaching. Provides training and continuing education for staff as needed.
12. Maintains professional expertise by attending mandatory staff and in-service meetings.
13. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
14. Floats as requested by the team leader and/or supervisor/staffing coordinator
15. Assists with orientation of new employees as appropriate.
16. Demonstrates proficiency in regards to the computer documentation of patient cares and any other related computerized patient information/documentation.
17. Performs other duties as assigned or directed and within the scope of abilities.

GENERAL REQUIREMENT

Must comply with and uphold Tomah Health’s Standards of Behavior at all times.

1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. Must have one of the following: successful completion of Certified Nursing Assistant program and hold a valid CNA certification from the state of Wisconsin; OR a graduate of an accredited EMS program with current WI Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), Paramedic, or Critical Care Paramedic certification; OR graduation from an accredited school of nursing with current licensure to practice as a licensed practical nurse in the state of Wisconsin
3. Previous Emergency Room or EMS experience preferred.
4. Current certification or eligibility for both BLS and ACLS.

7. Needs to possess a high level of intelligence, integrity, sense of responsibility and ability to comprehend and analyze details.
8. Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
9. Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for infant through geriatric patients.

1. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and talk and hear.
2. Frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. Also required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
3. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
4. Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discrimination sound.
5. Visual acuity is needed to assess color changes, to verify accuracy of written materials.

Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as infectious/communicable diseases, noise, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases, dusts, and physical injury/verbal abuse from an out-of-control patient. Frequent exposure to distressed patients, families or visitors. Must be able to function effectively under stressful situations.
