Summary

The Instrument Fitter is responsible for the installation, assembly, layout, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation systems and associated tubing, supports, and components used in industrial and process facilities. This position works from drawings, blueprints, specifications, and verbal instructions to ensure instrumentation systems are installed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience as an Instrument Fitter in an industrial, petrochemical, refinery, manufacturing, or construction environment preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Experience installing and fabricating instrument tubing systems, supports, and associated components.
• Must possess basic hand tools required to perform job duties.
• Ability to pass pre-employment screening and site-specific requirements.
• Current TWIC Card.
• Current Basic Plus/Safety Essentials certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of instrumentation installation methods, materials, and industry best practices.
• Ability to measure, cut, bend, thread, and install instrument tubing and fittings.
• Knowledge of tubing layout, routing, and support installation.
• Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and testing equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, P&IDs, and engineering specifications.
• Strong understanding of industrial safety procedures and safe work practices.
• Ability to identify and troubleshoot installation issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to maintain a high standard of quality and attention to detail.

Essential Functions

• Install, assemble, and secure instrument tubing, supports, brackets, and related components.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, and route tubing according to project specifications and drawings.
• Read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, blueprints, and work packages to determine installation requirements.
• Install and mount transmitters, gauges, control valves, analyzers, and other instrumentation devices.
• Verify proper alignment, spacing, and orientation of instrumentation systems.
• Perform tubing pressure tests, leak checks, and inspections as required.
• Ensure all work meets applicable quality standards, engineering specifications, and customer requirements.
• Coordinate activities with supervisors, engineers, inspectors, and other crafts to meet project schedules.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and site safety requirements.
• Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of project or maintenance activities.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, reach, climb, balance, push, and pull while performing pipefitting activities.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the scheduled shift.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and handle heavier piping materials, tools, or equipment using appropriate assistance or material-handling equipment.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work from scaffolds, elevated work platforms, pipe racks, and other industrial work areas as required.
• Ability to perform repetitive movements associated with measuring, layout, fitting, bolting, tool use, and material handling.
• Ability to work on uneven, muddy, rocky, or otherwise variable walking and working surfaces.
• Ability to work outdoors in heat, humidity, cold, rain, wind, and other weather conditions.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:

• hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, steel-toed footwear, FR clothing, fall protection, and other project-specific PPE.

Work Environment

• Work is primarily performed at active industrial construction, maintenance, turnaround, and customer facilities.
• Work may be performed in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, LNG, power generation, manufacturing, and other heavy industrial environments.
• Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, vibration, dust, dirt, fumes, moving equipment, piping systems, and other conditions typical of industrial construction and maintenance.
• Work may be performed around operating process units, piping systems, elevated work areas, excavations, structures, mobile equipment, and ongoing construction or maintenance activities.
• Work may require the use of ladders, scaffolds, elevated work platforms, and fall-protection systems.
