Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Frontend Engineer based in India.
As a Frontend Engineer, you’ll evaluate AI-generated web interfaces by combining a strong eye for visual fidelity with deep knowledge of how frontend code should be structured. Rather than building new pages, you’ll compare reference websites with two AI-generated implementations and determine which reproduction is genuinely stronger. You’ll inspect layouts, typography, spacing, responsiveness, interactions, assets, and underlying source code across multiple viewport states. The role requires the ability to distinguish robust frontend implementations from solutions that merely appear correct at a single screen size. You’ll work independently on detailed, timed evaluation tasks while producing evidence-based judgments that help improve the quality of AI-generated code. This is a specialized opportunity for an experienced web developer who enjoys technical analysis, code review, and understanding exactly how interfaces work.
- Render reference websites and two AI-generated candidate implementations locally at a 1920×1080 viewport, interact with each required state, and determine which implementation most accurately reproduces the reference.
- Evaluate visual fidelity in detail, including box model and spacing, typography, colors, borders, images and assets, layering, overflow, and other rendering characteristics.
- Inspect the underlying HTML, CSS, and JavaScript of both candidate implementations to assess whether the page is genuinely well constructed rather than simply optimized to look correct at one viewport.
- Identify problematic implementation patterns such as excessive hardcoded offsets, inappropriate absolute positioning, excessive inline styling, undifferentiated DOM structures, or screenshots incorrectly used as page content.
- Test responsive behavior across viewport sizes and identify precisely when and why layouts, navigation, content, or other interface elements fail.
- Provide specific, evidence-based written justifications for every preference, clearly explaining the technical and visual reasons one implementation performs better than another.
- Use judgment when determining whether an evaluation task is genuinely impossible to complete from the provided materials, avoiding both unnecessary task escalation and overlooking legitimate issues.
- Maintain a high standard of consistency and accuracy across timed evaluation units while working independently within a real local development environment.
- Bring 3–8 years of professional web development experience, primarily in frontend or full-stack roles involving production web interfaces.
- Demonstrate strong command of hand-written HTML and CSS, including semantic markup, Flexbox, Grid, media queries, and legacy float- and table-based layouts.
- Be comfortable working across different generations of web development and able to understand both modern component-based interfaces and older, manually structured websites.
- Have strong browser DevTools skills, including setting exact viewport dimensions, inspecting the DOM and element tree, reviewing computed styles, and understanding interactive behavior.
- Be comfortable with command-line workflows such as unzipping archives, running a local static server, troubleshooting asset paths, and resolving broken references.
- Have sufficient JavaScript knowledge to read frontend scripts and understand how they affect the DOM and page behavior, even if JavaScript is not your primary development language.
- Possess strong professional written English and the ability to produce precise, detailed technical rationales rather than relying on subjective statements about visual similarity.
- Be able to work independently, manage 2–3 hour timed evaluation units, and provide contiguous multi-hour availability rather than scattered short work periods.
- Previous experience with RLHF, preference labeling, model evaluation, structured code review, pixel-perfect design-to-code work, accessibility, web scraping, archiving, or DOM parsing is a strong advantage.
- Familiarity with common failure patterns in AI-generated code and comfort using messy crawled website structures are also beneficial.
- You must have completed at least one prior engagement with the contracting platform and delivered it in full; this project is not onboarding new experts.
- A desktop or laptop capable of displaying a 1920×1080 viewport and administrator rights to install and run a local server are required.
- This opportunity is intended for practicing web developers; backend-only, ML/data science-only, mobile-native-only, and DevOps-only backgrounds, as well as designers without coding experience, are not aligned with the requirements.
- Independent contractor engagement with a fully remote work structure.
- Ability to complete projects on your own schedule, subject to the availability and requirements of individual assignments.
- Weekly payments through Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
- Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on project needs and performance.
- Opportunity to work on projects focused on training and improving advanced AI systems using your frontend expertise.
- Competitive compensation for specialized technical evaluation work.
- Opportunity to collaborate with leading AI researchers and contribute to the development of next-generation AI systems.
- Referral program offering up to $360 for each successful referral, with no stated limit on the number of referrals, subject to applicable restrictions.
- Work is structured to avoid access to confidential or proprietary information belonging to an employer, client, or institution.
- H1-B and STEM OPT candidates are not supported for this opportunity.
