Job Description:

Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Instructional Technologist is responsible for assisting in the implementation and maintenance of all supporting technologies which enhance the teaching and learning process. The Instructional Technologist is a direct line of support for faculty and students for any University-approved academic technologies. The Instructional Technologist partners with others to address the creation of documentation, training, and learning materials related to instructional technologies.

The current RWU Learning Management System is D2L Brightspace.

Essential Functions

Provide tier 1 and tier 2 end-user support, including diagnosing, troubleshooting, resolution, escalation, and follow up as needed on campus and online for both faculty and students in the use of D2L Brightspace and related instructional technologies.

Assist with installation, maintenance, and support of all approved academic technologies. Support faculty in integrating emerging technologies, including multimedia (Panopto), and collaboration tools.

Monitor, track and manage Instructional Design service request tickets through Freshservice ITSM platform, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication.

Create and deliver training and develop how-to documentation of instructional technologies and tools as required.

Additional Functions

Collaborate with Instructional Design staff to ensure that users are informed about current developments and policies related to instructional technologies at RWU.

Support faculty in applying instructional design principles to technology use.

Ensure instructional materials meet accessibility standards (e.g., captioning, screen reader compatibility).

Assist in evaluating and piloting new educational technologies.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree.

Minimum of two years' experience supporting or administering an LMS (preferably D2L Brightspace or similar platforms such as Canvas or Blackboard).

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical users.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working in an academic environment and in D2L Brightspace.

Additional professional education and/or experience.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
