Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers is seeking an experienced Patient Access Manager for our multi-specialty oncology practice. In this role, you’ll lead front-end financial operations and drive excellence across Patient Financial Services—ensuring accurate processes, strong team performance, and a positive patient financial experience.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Performance

Oversee Benefit Counseling, Insurance Verification, Patient Assistance, and Patient Access teamsEnsure accurate insurance verification to prevent denialsAudit workflows, production, and establish benchmarks/KPIsMonitor collections of copays, deductibles, and patient balances at time of serviceMaintain accurate fee schedules and cost-of-care calculationsTrack physician adjustments and report key metrics to leadership

Leadership & Team Development

Lead, mentor, and develop supervisors, leads, and staffTrain teams and ensure processes are accurate and regularly reviewedOversee performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actionsPromote accountability, productivity, and a high-performance culture

Quality & Patient Experience

Ensure financial responsibility is communicated clearly and compassionately to patientsSupport patients by utilizing appropriate financial assistance programsMaintain compliance with billing regulations, policies, and legal requirementsDrive a customer-focused approach across all patient interactions

Collaboration & Improvement

Partner with Operations and leadership to address uncollectible accountsImprove financial workflows and patient access processesLeverage analytics, dashboards, and audits to drive continuous improvement

Qualifications

10+ years of medical billing experience5+ years of healthcare leadership experience managing PFS staffStrong knowledge of accounts receivable, EOBs, insurance denials, and benefitsExperience with patient assistance programs and financial counselingKnowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding and medical terminologyUnderstanding of oncology services, infusions, and specialty care billingProficiency in Microsoft Excel, reporting, and analyticsExperience with performance dashboards, auditing, and process improvementBachelor’s degree preferred
