What We Do:
Woodcraft Rangers provides TK-12 expanded learning programs, including before and after school, specialty enrichment, and summer learning. In the past few years, Woodcraft has expanded its menu of services beyond traditional afterschool programs and summer camps to include early learning, environmental and social justice, college access, and inclusion services for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Additionally, we offer LifeCraft, a college and career advancement program to support the development of approximately 2,250 staff. Today, Woodcraft Rangers serves more than 30,000 youth ages 4 to 18 each year across 150 plus Title I schools in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties, and continues to expand its reach.
Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, energetic, ambitious, proactive, and positive, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Multi-tasking and attention to detail must be strengths this individual possesses. Candidates should be comfortable presenting and speaking in front of staff and peers during in-person training, and genuinely enthusiastic about working with young children in an outdoor or school-based setting.
TK/Kindergarten Schedule Model: Early Bird / Later Gator / Afterschool
Val Verde operates a staggered instructional schedule for TK and Kindergarten students. Woodcraft Rangers staff provide supplemental programming that wraps around each cohort's district instruction time.
Available shifts:
Early Bird — Approx. 7:45 AM – 2:00 PM
Later Gator — Approx. 7:45 AM – 1:00/2:00 PM
Afterschool/PM — 2:00 pm – 6:00 PM

Role Overview:
Junior Rangers Leaders are responsible for ensuring a fun, safe, and positive learning environment for TK and Kindergarten participants in clubs of up to 10 students. This is a hands-on, on-site role that requires enthusiasm, creativity, and a genuine love of working with young children. Junior Rangers Leaders work alongside a Site Coordinator and Community Liaison and have the opportunity to grow, connect, and make a direct impact on participants' experience.
Responsibilities:
Junior Rangers Leaders are responsible for ensuring a fun, safe, and positive learning environment for TK and Kindergarten participants in clubs of up to 10 students. This is a hands-on, on-site role that requires enthusiasm, creativity, and a genuine love of working with young children. Junior Rangers Leaders work alongside a Site Coordinator and Community Liaison and have the opportunity to grow, connect, and make a direct impact on participants' experience.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure students are always in a safe environment — physically and emotionally
- Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity for all program participants, staff, and families
- Develop and lead age-appropriate program activities that are fun, engaging, and aligned with a whole-child approach (social emotional learning, skill building, self-esteem, leadership, etc.)
- Monitor participant attendance and engagement to ensure students are present and actively participating
- Build positive relationships with program participants, colleagues, and all stakeholders
- Collaborate with colleagues and supervisor to develop culminating activities or events that showcase participant work and accomplishments
- Request required materials in a timely manner so the Site Coordinator can ensure availability within budget
- Comply with all applicable safety requirements and emergency protocols, including staying current on all required trainings and certifications
- May be required to attend off-site field trips
- Participate in required staff development training — approximately 15 hours spread across multiple weekends and intersessional days throughout the spring
- Accountable to the Site Coordinator and Program Manager for all assigned duties
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications/Skills:
Required
Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- First Aid and CPR certification (provided by Woodcraft Rangers)
- 6 months of experience supervising a group of early education-aged children in a school or recreational setting, OR 6 units in early education or child development
- Must successfully pass an assessment evaluating skills in math, reading comprehension, and spelling
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Computer literacy and willingness to learn new tools
Preferred
- Experience working in an expanded learning, afterschool, or youth development setting
- Bilingual — English and Spanish
