Job Description

Job Summary

The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the company. This position handles accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, reconciliations, billing, collections, and financial reporting.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities while identifying and resolving accounting discrepancies in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

Maintain accurate financial records, including income, expenses, receivables, payables, and general ledger activity.

Record financial activity accurately and timely to the appropriate accounts.

Reconcile bank accounts, credit card transactions, balance sheet accounts, and general ledger accounts as assigned.

Assist with month-end close and preparation and review of monthly financial statements, including profit and loss statements and balance sheets.

Review financial activity for unusual, incorrect, or inconsistent transactions and resolve discrepancies before financials are finalized.

Ensure the accuracy of data flowing between various accounting and operational systems.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and timely.

Process billing and payments and record daily activity to the appropriate accounts.

Verify invoices for accuracy, proper coding, approvals, and supporting documentation.

Monitor outstanding receivables and assist with timely collection efforts.

Generate invoices and follow up on delinquent or outstanding accounts.

Research and resolve billing, payment, and account discrepancies.

Maintain organized supporting documentation for financial transactions.

Accounting Operations

Communicate with managers, vendors, clients, and other departments regarding accounting and financial matters.

Identify conflicting, incomplete, or inaccurate information and resolve issues before processing transactions.

Communicate unresolved issues to the appropriate supervisor or department in a timely manner.

Follow established accounting procedures, internal controls, and company policies.

Maintain accurate and organized financial records and supporting documentation.

Administrative & Team Support

Assist with budgeting, forecasting, audits, tax documentation, compliance reporting, and other accounting projects as needed.

Provide backup and assistance to other accountants and members of the accounting team as needed.

Serve as backup to the Maintenance Dispatcher/Coordinator when needed.

Maintain confidentiality of company, client, vendor, financial, and operational information.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

Two or more years of bookkeeping or accounting experience preferred.

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

Basic understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.

Experience with accounting or financial management software preferred.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Ability to identify discrepancies, research problems, and determine appropriate solutions.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and productively with minimal supervision.

Ability to use sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information.

Professional, courteous, service-oriented, and able to remain calm under pressure.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team and provide support where needed.
