Job Description

⚡About Amber

Amber is an entirely new way to buy and sell power, designed for a world powered by renewable energy. We give customers direct access to the real-time wholesale electricity price as it varies every 5 mins and the technology to shift more of their energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid. It’s a cheaper way to buy power, a smarter way to sell power, and the fastest way for Australia to reach 100% renewable energy.

We are a clear category leader in Australia for home battery automation and are growing rapidly (close to 100k customers). We have also recently expanded into licensing our core technology to utilities overseas, including a partnership with E.ON Next in the UK.

Amber is backed by leading Australian and international investors, including Square Peg, Main Sequence, Breakthrough Victoria, Commonwealth Bank, NRMA, Gentrack, ETF Partners and E.ON Next. Most recently, Amber raised a $78.5 million Series E, led by 1GT, Morgan Stanley Investment Management’s climate tech fund, alongside participation from existing investors.

We are scaling rapidly and you’d be joining a team of over 250 committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and purpose-driven culture as we transform a major industry.

Our products are reshaping home energy: Amber for Batteries cuts bills by exporting stored energy at wholesale prices of up to $20/kWh, and Amber for EVs enables the cheapest, cleanest charging. In 2026, we are pushing this even further with our new vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology.

💻 About the role

Note: This a client facing, individual contributor role.

This role sits within Amber's tech licensing business, which partners with leading energy retailers globally to bring them cutting edge products to reduce consumer bills. Amber has cracked something genuinely rare - a technology that benefits consumers, utilities, and the grid all at once.

Having built a loyal following of our own consumers in Australia by giving people direct access to wholesale energy prices and automating smart devices to save them money, we're now scaling this model with partner retailers globally.

As the founding Account/Partnerships Director in Australia, you'll own the most important partner relationships in the AU business, helping them unlock scale with Amber’s technology.

This is not a high-volume account management role. You will own a handful accounts, but they are partnerships of high complexity and commercial significance - relationships with major partners that span 25 or more stakeholders, from delivery teams to C-suite executives, often measured over years not months.

Ideally based in Amber’s hometown of Melbourne, though we're open to strong candidates anywhere in Australia.

💪🏽 Responsibilities
  • Be the guide to our partners, as they take the journey towards scale (in terms of users), ensuring we’re bringing all the Amber knowledge to bear on reaching scale.
  • Build and nurture relationship across your partner accounts in their entirety - investing at all levels, from product and technical teams to Exec. Expect to be actively managing 25 or more external stakeholders per account.
  • Review, refine and deliver account strategy to ensure partners achieve consistent, measurable value (aka scale) from Amber from onboarding to renewal, while driving revenue growth for Amber.
  • Drive account growth. You'll spot opportunities through the networks you build - identifying affiliated businesses, new use cases, and strategic moments where Amber can do more - and you'll pursue them with the patience and rigour that enterprise partnerships demand.
  • Act as the voice of the partner inside Amber - surfacing what's working, what isn't, and what partners need next, and translating that into clear priorities for the product, engineering, and delivery teams.
  • Build your account expansion playbook as you go, in partnership with the VP of Business Development, and the wider delivery team. You'll have the autonomy to define what great looks like, refining your process and laying the foundations that will help you, and the business scale.
  • Lead and own the quarterly business review process - designing the agenda, aligning stakeholders in advance, and leading the room with the confidence and credibility that senior utility executives expect.
  • Maintain accurate account plans, health metrics, and CRM records, and use data to stay ahead of risk and opportunity across your portfolio.
🎯 Key Requirements
  • You've worked at the enterprise end of B2B - not managing 100s accounts, but going deep on a small number of large, complex partnerships where relationships are everything and commercial stakes are high (6+ figure ARRs). You know what it's like to navigate a major organisation, get the right people in the room, and move things forward without direct authority over anyone.
  • You're commercially sharp, with a sales mindset and a a focus on revenue growth . You understand that growing an enterprise account means building trust over months, spotting the right moment, and knowing which stakeholders need to be aligned before anything moves. You measure success in annual outcomes, not weekly wins.
  • You have the presence and credibility to sit across the table from a CCO or COO and hold your own - not because of your title, but because of the quality of your thinking and the depth of your preparation.
  • And you're a builder. There's no playbook handed to you here. You'll create your own frameworks, processes, and cadences - and that excites you!
The strongest candidates will bring:
  • A track record of growing large, complex enterprise accounts - ideally in B2B or B2B2C SaaS, energy technology, utilities, or a related sector.
  • Background in either energy retail, SaaS, energy tech (e.g. EVs, e-mobility, residential batteries, solar PV) or similar industries with strong grasp on relevant trends and implications.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow accounts, not just retain them. You have specific examples - you took something from X to Y, here's how, here's what it took.
  • Experience navigating large, matrixed partner organisations - building multi-threaded relationships across commercial, technical, operational, and executive stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Executive presence and the ability to influence C-suite and VP-level stakeholders at major European corporations. Utility sector experience is a genuine advantage, though candidates from adjacent industries - telco in particular - have translated well into this world.
  • A roll-up-your-sleeves mentality. Amber is a flat, fast, low-process business. The people who thrive here design their own ways of working, take initiative without being asked, and are motivated by outcomes rather than structure.
  • Comfort with long cycles and high stakes. These are not transactional relationships. Decisions involve many people, take time, and have consequences that last years.
  • Passion. We're a mission driven bunch who really love what we do. Our people are our not-so-secret sauce.
  • A growth and ownership mindset. Trust, challenge and impact are important to us. A strong internal drive and passion for learning will take you far here.
🎉 Benefits
  • We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world.
  • You’d be a part of a rapidly growing team of close to 250 ****with expertise across energy, technology, marketing, and operations.
  • Be part of a growing technology start-up that will shape the future of household and grid energy use.
  • Enjoy a lively, collaborative workspace at our buzzing Melbourne CBD headquarters in the heart of the city
  • Flexible working hours with provision for regular work from home arrangements.
  • Equitable gender-neutral parental leave policies.
  • An external Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) for mental health support.
  • Competitive salary and share options in Amber.
  • Annual Learning & Development budget to support your personal growth.
  • Additional PTO between Xmas & New Year
💰 Salary range

Salary range is between $160,000 and $200,000 base salary (excluding Superannuation) with an annual performance bonus (~20%) tied to account growth and retention outcomes.

All permanent full-time roles at Amber include employee stock options over and above the base salary and superannuation

This is a full-time role to be based ideally from Melbourne, but we are also open to considering the right candidate anywhere within Australia.

We are also open to discussing a four day work week or nine day fortnight once you are fully ramped up, if that flexibility is important to you and something you would be looking for.

Amber is a remote first team; we have an office in the Melbourne CBD, where we work flexibly between the office and home. The vast majority of our team are located in Melbourne. For those based in Sydney, they catch up in a co-working space in the city every now and then, and rest of the locations in Australia work from home. While we don't expect people to attend the office, we do expect that people mostly work in the Melbourne time zone to maximise collaboration.

🌈 If this kind of work gets you excited, we'd love to hear from you!

Even if you don’t meet 100% of the requirements listed above, we still encourage you to apply. We're open to all backgrounds and encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply. We never discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status.

At Amber, we’re committed to an inclusive, equitable workplace where everyone thrives. We welcome all candidates regardless of background, identity, or lived experience.

🏅 Our Hiring Process
  • A screening interview with our talent team;
  • An intro call with the hiring manager;
  • A take-home assignment to work on in your own time
  • A follow-up panel interview built around an assignment that should take no longer than one evening to prepare for;
  • A potential final chat with one/two of the founders or exec team.
🎬 The Bit at the End

We promise to be respectful of your time as an applicant while trying to be as thorough as possible in finding the right fit for our team.

Applications will be accepted only from candidates already based in the UK/EU, with full working rights!

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted promptly. All other applicants will also be notified of the outcome as soon as possible.

No recruitment agencies please. We've got this! Thank you.
