Position Summary

The Director of Transportation is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and management of transportation operations within an organization.

Requirements:

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that all employees are trained on company policies and procedures regarding safety, security, and customer service
  • Coordinating with other departments such as security or human resources to ensure that any transportation needs are met
  • Managing the fleet of vehicles used by the company to ensure that they are safe and well-maintained
  • Managing vehicle maintenance schedules, including ordering parts and making repairs when necessary
  • Maintaining relationships with vendors in order to obtain special pricing for fuel or other materials
  • Establishing and enforcing rules and regulations to ensure the safety of passengers on buses and trains
  • Coordinating with other departments to develop schedules for employees who use company vehicles for work purposes
  • Ensuring that vehicle operators are properly trained and certified in accordance with state laws
  • Communicating with clients about any schedule changes or service updates
  • Management retains the discretion to add or change duties at any time.

Education, Experience and Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, business management, engineering, or related field.
  • At least 2 year's experience as a transportation manager in a similar industry.
  • Solid knowledge of the transportation industry and logistics.
  • Experience working with union contracts and transportation-related government regulations.
  • Critical thinking skills and knowledge of analytics.
  • Experience working with transport management systems and warehouse management software
  • Ability to work well with team members and navigate stressful situations.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Good conflict resolution skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, specifically Excel.
  • Must be able to communicate financial information into sound business language so people of all levels can understand.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations on taxes and reporting.
  • A deep understanding of finance.

Physical Requirements, Working Conditions, and Travel Requirements

  • Must be able to pull up to 35 pounds.
  • Sitting for long periods while driving, general bending and twisting are associated with lifting.
  • Travel may require up to 25% of the time.
