Sims HD erects, jumps, inspects and services the personnel and material hoists on some of Florida’s biggest job sites: hospitals, high-rises, aerospace and industrial projects]. Our hoist division is growing, and we need experienced hoist mechanics to keep those sites moving, and to lead the crews we add next.

• Schedule: Varies, Monday–Friday, 6:30am–3:00pm, with Weekend work as required, time and a half on Saturday and double time on Sunday

• Territory: Primarily Tampa and Miami, but we do work throughout the state

• $40–$45/hr based on experience, plus overtime. Certifications and lead experience move you up the range.

• Day use service truck, fuel card, phone and tools

• Paid training and certifications, including manufacturer hoist training

• A real path to Lead Hoist Mechanic, Foreman and Trainer as the division grows

• $1,500 sign-on bonus half paid in first check, half paid in 90 days

• Quarterly Safety bonuses

• Erect, jump and dismantle rack-and-pinion personnel and material hoists, including mast sections, tie-ins, landing gates and enclosures

• Inspect, maintain and repair cars, drives, gearboxes, brakes, rack and pinion, overspeed safety devices and limit switches

• Troubleshoot electrical and control systems: 480V three-phase power, motors, VFDs, car and landing controls

• Perform inspections and drop tests per ANSI A10.4 and manufacturer requirements, and document the results

• Rig and signal mast and component lifts with tower and mobile cranes

• Coordinate with GC superintendents on jumps, tie-in locations and service windows so the site keeps running

• Complete service tickets and inspection reports on a tablet

• Train and mentor apprentice mechanics

• 2+ years erecting, servicing or maintaining construction personnel/material hoists

• Comfortable working at heights of 300+ ft on the mast and tie-ins with fall protection, outdoors in Florida weather

• Working knowledge of 480V three-phase power, motor controls and VFD troubleshooting

• Familiarity with ANSI A10.4 and OSHA construction safety standards

• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

• Able to pass a background check and drug screen

• Champion hoist experience (Alimak, GEDA or other rack-and-pinion brands also count)

• Manufacturer hoist training or certification

• NCCCO Rigger or Signalperson certification

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30

• Aerial lift, forklift or telehandler certification

• Elevator, electrical or industrial maintenance trade school
