Job Description

Description:

Spoleto Festival USA is internationally recognized as America’s premier performing arts festival. For 17 days and nights each spring, Spoleto Festival USA fills Charleston’s historic theaters, churches, and outdoor spaces with performances in opera; theater; dance; and chamber, symphonic, choral, jazz, folk, and rock music. Spoleto Festival USA is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

The Role

The Company Manager is an integral part of the Producing Department, providing operational, logistic, and creative support to the producers, production team, seasonal production departments, and artists of the annual Festival. You’ll lead housing and travel logistics for the Festival period and own department operations and planning year-round, working closely with all Producing staff and seasonal apprentices while interfacing with artists, production crew, vendors, and community partners.

You’ll also hire, train, and supervise seasonal staff, including Festival Drivers and Apprentices, ensuring alignment with Festival standards and operational needs. Availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours is required during the Festival production period (April–mid-June), with occasional evenings and weekends required outside the Festival with advance notice.

Position Type: Full-time, exempt, and benefit-eligible

Location: Charleston, SC (hybrid), with on-site work required during the Festival production period

Department: Producing

Reports to: Producers

What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate all housing needs for artists, production crew, seasonal staff, and consultants, including home rentals, hotel contracts, and College of Charleston dorm housing.
  • Manage the setup, closeout, and check-in/out procedures for all artist, production crew, and seasonal staff housing.
  • Collect and document travel plans, and support airport ground transfers, rental vehicles, parking passes, and driver scheduling.
  • Hire, train, and supervise seasonal staff, including Festival Drivers and Apprentices.
  • Help plan and facilitate travel for the annual Chorus and Orchestra Audition tours, and for artists attending off-season events such as donor events and season announcement performances.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with local housing partners, and assist in pursuing corporate sponsorship opportunities for housing, ground transportation, and travel.
  • Review policies and procedures annually to continually improve company management support for artists, production crew, and seasonal staff.
  • Contribute to long-range strategy and season planning with insights on housing and logistics.

What You’ll Bring

  • Prior experience with company management, scheduling, or logistics in the performing arts, festivals, large-scale events, arts administration, or a related field.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (SharePoint, Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams), with comfort managing databases or large spreadsheets with exacting detail.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including excellent email etiquette.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills across written and numerical work.
  • A calm, composed approach to facilitating competing and overlapping priorities, and the ability to work long hours during the Festival period.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and engage effectively with artists, senior leadership, stakeholders, vendors, and volunteers.
  • Bachelor’s degree, background in arts/culture or production, knowledge of the Charleston area, apprentice-supervision experience, or cargo van driving experience are all a plus.
Requirements:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.; this employer participates in E-Verify.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and hold a valid driver’s license; you must be 21 or older, as this role requires driving a Festival-provided vehicle.
  • Requires the ability to stoop, kneel, bend, stand for extended periods, climb stairs, reach overhead, and lift up to 50 lbs., including work in low-light, outdoor, and high-noise environments.
  • Requires availability for nights, weekends, and holidays, with on-call hours during the Festival period (late April–mid-June) and occasional evenings/weekends outside the Festival with advance notice.
  • Hybrid/Charleston-based, with on-site presence in Charleston, SC required during the Festival production period.
