As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a key role in migrating legacy IBM AIX environments to modern Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) infrastructure. You will contribute to the planning, execution, and validation of migration activities, helping ensure a reliable transition while minimizing operational disruption and downtime. Working with enterprise systems and application dependencies, you will identify compatibility challenges, resolve technical issues, and implement effective migration strategies. You will also leverage shell scripting and automation to streamline administrative tasks and improve migration efficiency. Collaborating with IT operations and cross-functional technical teams, you will help maintain system stability, performance, and business continuity throughout the transformation. This remote opportunity offers a project engagement of at least six months, with working hours aligned with the US time zone. It is particularly suited to an experienced infrastructure professional with strong AIX and Linux administration skills and a passion for enterprise modernization.

Accountabilities:
  • Support the migration of existing IBM AIX environments to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), ensuring a structured, reliable, and efficient transition.
  • Administer, configure, monitor, and troubleshoot IBM AIX and Linux systems throughout the migration lifecycle.
  • Assess existing infrastructure environments, application dependencies, system configurations, and technical requirements to determine migration readiness and identify potential risks.
  • Develop and execute migration plans, technical procedures, implementation strategies, and cutover approaches aligned with project requirements.
  • Plan and perform infrastructure migration activities for legacy enterprise applications, ensuring compatibility and operational continuity.
  • Conduct migration testing, post-migration validation, and troubleshooting to confirm that systems function correctly in the target environment.
  • Identify and resolve configuration inconsistencies, compatibility issues, performance bottlenecks, and other technical challenges encountered during migration.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize shell scripts to automate migration procedures, system administration tasks, and repetitive operational activities.
  • Support the deployment, configuration, and management of Red Hat OpenShift when required by project needs.
  • Document migration workflows, system configurations, implementation procedures, troubleshooting activities, and validation results to ensure traceability and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with IT operations, infrastructure specialists, application teams, and other technical stakeholders to coordinate migration activities and minimize downtime.
  • Apply infrastructure modernization best practices to improve system reliability, performance, and maintainability in the target Linux environment.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience administering IBM AIX environments, including system configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Practical experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), with a solid understanding of Linux system management and enterprise infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting legacy infrastructure migrations and enterprise application transitions between platforms.
  • Knowledge of migration planning, dependency assessment, cutover procedures, testing strategies, and post-migration validation.
  • Ability to assess existing infrastructure architectures, identify technical dependencies, anticipate migration risks, and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Experience with shell scripting and automation to streamline system administration and migration-related tasks.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise systems, application requirements, system compatibility, configuration management, and infrastructure troubleshooting.
  • Proven analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to diagnose complex technical issues and implement reliable solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to planning, executing, validating, and documenting infrastructure changes.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with IT operations and cross-functional technical teams.
  • Conversational English proficiency at B2 level or above, enabling effective communication in an international working environment.
  • Availability to work according to the US time zone and commit to a project expected to last at least six months.

Nice to have:

  • Proven experience completing an end-to-end migration from IBM AIX to Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Experience deploying, administering, or supporting Red Hat OpenShift environments.
  • Previous involvement in migrating business-critical enterprise applications from legacy platforms to Linux-based infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure modernization methodologies, migration best practices, and enterprise transformation projects.
  • Relevant IBM or Red Hat certifications demonstrating expertise in system administration and infrastructure technologies.
Benefits:
  • Remote work: Work remotely from Brazil as part of an international infrastructure project.
  • Long-term project engagement: Contribute to a migration initiative expected to last at least six months.
  • Technical challenges: Work on enterprise infrastructure modernization involving IBM AIX, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and potentially OpenShift.
  • Specialized experience: Apply and strengthen your skills in legacy system migration, Linux administration, automation, and enterprise application compatibility.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with infrastructure, application, and IT operations teams to deliver a successful migration.
  • International work environment: Collaborate with distributed teams while developing experience in enterprise-level infrastructure transformation.
