Position: Assistant General Manager / Executive Housekeeper
We are looking for a good Assistant General Manager / Executive Housekeeper (this AGM position will also be the exec) to help the GM lead the historic upscale Berkeley Hotel in downtown Richmond. With a new renovation and 55 rooms, we are striving to be the most upscale/luxury hotel in the downtown market. This AGM is a key member of the hotel leadership team and is primarily responsible for overseeing the Housekeeping Department and overall cleanliness, presentation, and guest-ready condition of the property, front desk sop development and service as well as executive admin duties. The Berkeley Hotel is now a part of the Hilton family's outset collection. Previous AGM and or hsk exec experience is required. Hilton experience is preferred.
This position combines the responsibilities of an Executive Housekeeper with those of an Assistant General Manager. The successful candidate will lead the housekeeping team, establish and maintain high standards of cleanliness and service, manage staffing and departmental operations, and ensure that guest rooms and public areas consistently meet the property’s standards.
As Assistant General Manager, this individual will also support the General Manager in the day-to-day operation of the hotel, provide leadership across departments, assist with guest relations and operational challenges, and assume responsibility for the property in the General Manager’s absence.
Primary ResponsibilitiesExecutive Housekeeping Leadership- Lead, supervise, and manage all housekeeping operations, including guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, laundry, and related facilities.
- Establish and maintain consistently high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and presentation throughout the property.
- Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms and public areas to ensure they meet hotel standards.
- Develop and maintain housekeeping procedures, checklists, inspection standards, and cleaning schedules.
- Monitor room readiness and work closely with the Front Office to ensure rooms are cleaned, inspected, and released in a timely manner.
- Coordinate daily housekeeping assignments based on occupancy, arrivals, departures, stayovers, special requests, and staffing levels.
- Train, coach, and develop housekeeping employees to deliver consistent quality and excellent guest service.
- Monitor employee performance, attendance, productivity, and adherence to hotel policies.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and scheduling housekeeping personnel.
- Create efficient staffing plans while maintaining appropriate service and cleanliness standards.
- Manage housekeeping supplies, linens, amenities, equipment, and inventory.
- Monitor departmental expenses and assist with controlling labor and supply costs.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels and establish procedures to minimize waste, loss, and damage.
- Coordinate laundry operations and linen management.
- Work with Maintenance/Engineering to identify and report room maintenance issues and ensure timely resolution.
- Ensure proper handling and documentation of lost and found items.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, sanitation, and workplace standards.
- Assist the General Manager with the overall daily operation of the hotel.
- Provide leadership and support to other departments as needed.
- Serve as a visible member of the management team and promote a professional, welcoming environment for guests and employees.
- Respond to guest concerns and service issues promptly and professionally.
- Assist with resolving operational challenges and coordinating solutions between departments.
- Support Front Office operations, including assisting with arrivals, departures, room availability, and guest requests when necessary.
- Monitor overall property standards and ensure that departments are operating effectively.
- Participate in management meetings and contribute to operational planning and decision-making.
- Assist the General Manager with staffing, training, employee relations, and performance management.
- Help ensure compliance with hotel policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Assume operational leadership of the property when the General Manager is unavailable.
- Perform other management responsibilities as assigned by the General Manager.
The Assistant General Manager / Executive Housekeeper plays a critical role in the guest experience. The position is expected to:

- Previous experience as an Executive Housekeeper, Housekeeping Manager, Assistant General Manager, or similar hotel leadership position.
- Strong understanding of hotel housekeeping operations and room-cleaning standards.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple operational demands in a fast-paced environment.

- Hotel management experience preferred.

- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods and regularly inspect guest rooms and property areas.
- Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and move throughout the hotel as required.
- Ability to respond to operational needs and emergencies outside of a normal schedule when necessary.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on hotel leader who understands that exceptional housekeeping is fundamental to the guest experience. This person should be comfortable working alongside the housekeeping team, inspecting rooms personally, solving problems quickly, and holding the department to a high standard while also thinking and operating as part of the hotel’s senior management team.
