Job Description
Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery is seeking a motivated, hands-on individual who enjoys problem-solving, working with equipment, and taking ownership of important processes. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety focused, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
In this role, you’ll help operate and maintain our wastewater treatment plant by monitoring systems, collecting samples, troubleshooting issues, performing preventative maintenance, and maintaining accurate records. You’ll work closely with multiple departments and play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance and efficient plant operations.
Pay & Schedule
- Starting Pay: $25.00 per hour, with compensation based on experience
- Increase after 120 days
- Shift: 1st Shift
- Hours: Flexible hours with 8-hour shift between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM
- Schedule: Monday through Friday – this role will be expected to be on an on-call rotation, every fifth weekend.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain wastewater treatment equipment and systems to ensure efficient and compliant plant operations.
- Perform wastewater sampling, testing, monitoring, documentation, and recordkeeping activities.
- Troubleshoot equipment and process issues and perform preventative and corrective maintenance repairs.
- Monitor membrane systems and assist with maintaining overall plant performance and regulatory compliance.
- Perform general facility maintenance, groundskeeping, and safely operate equipment such as forklifts and tractors.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to operational needs, emergencies, and equipment breakdowns as required.
- Follow all company safety policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and Federal, State, and Local regulations while supporting other operational areas as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent; maintenance, mechanical, wastewater, or related experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication, documentation, basic math, and computer skills.
- Valid Driver's License and ability to successfully complete forklift training.
- Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain Wisconsin Wastewater Operator certification, including required training and continuing education.
- Eagerness to learn wastewater treatment operations, processes, and equipment.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more on a repetitive basis
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours per shift
- Ability to bend, climb, kneel, and perform physically demanding tasks
Work Environment
This position works in both indoor and outdoor environments, including a food manufacturing and wastewater treatment facility. Employees may be exposed to varying weather conditions, wastewater treatment equipment, cleaning chemicals, wet or slippery surfaces, and industrial maintenance environments. The role requires adherence to all company food safety, sanitation, environmental, and workplace safety policies and regulations while maintaining a clean and safe work area at all times.
