Manufacturing Design Engineer

Summary
A Manufacturing Design Engineer at Compotech is an emerging problem-solver who helps bridge design intent and product execution. They support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes across systems engineering initiative to include design for manufacturing, production engineering, machining, and automation. This engineer is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and capable of collaborating across engineering, quality, and production teams to transform technical concepts into reliable, scalable manufacturing solutions. This role combines mechanical engineering, electrical integration, manufacturing engineering, and systems engineering to ensure products are reliable, manufacturable, and meet customer performance requirements. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams including software, electrical, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and program management to deliver high-quality products on schedule and within budget.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support planning, design, production, and testing phases for Compotech programs.
  • Design electro-mechanical assemblies, mechanisms, fixtures, and production equipment.
  • Develop 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analyses and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews.
  • Integrate electrical components into mechanical systems (Select motors, actuators, sensors, bearings, gearboxes, pneumatic components, fasteners, and electrical hardware).
  • Create Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering change documentation.
  • Review processing methods and materials, proposing improvements to meet production goals.
  • Assist in writing technical reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Research and help define specifications for equipment, materials, and tooling purchases.
  • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to support project needs.
  • Participate in travel for system training, technical presentations, and testing events.
  • Assist production teams on technical challenges including PDM implementation, SolidWorks FEA analysis, SolidWorks Simulation and process optimization.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • M.S. in Mechanical or Manufacturing Systems Engineering (preferred) or B.S. in related field (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering).
  • Foundational coursework or hands-on experience in areas supporting systems engineering and design mechanics.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in fast-paced project environments.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • SolidWorks proficiency, including part modeling, assemblies, and drawings.
  • Exposure to design for manufacturing (DFM) concepts and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • 5-10+ years of relevant engineering or manufacturing experience.

Preferred

  • Experience with composite materials, manufacturing, structural design, electro-mechanical design.
  • Exposure to additive manufacturing.
  • Interest in developing deeper systems, engineering and production-focused skills, leadership and design presentations.
