Job Description

Enedym Electrical Engineering Co-op (PCB Design & Integration)

Enedym is a startup from McMaster University focused on developing electric motor and propulsion technologies. We specialize in innovative switched reluctance motor solutions, aiming to revolutionize energy systems for a cleaner, more efficient future. Join our dynamic team to be part of driving meaningful change towards sustainability in transportation and energy.

About This Role

We are looking for a dynamic, knowledgeable, and skilled Electrical Engineering co-op to join our team and play a critical role in our hardware development. The ideal candidate will combine computer-based electronics design with hands-on assembly, testing, and debugging to bring new hardware designs to life. This role offers critical exposure to both the hardware design and systems integration teams.

You will get an opportunity to have a significant impact on our engineering team as we develop new products and processes. We expect you to be a dynamic team player who is curious about applying new ideas to solve complex problems.

Job Description

Join our team at Enedym as an Electrical Engineering Co-op and get diverse, hands-on experience while playing an important role in the company. This role will assist in designing new PCBs and electronic sub-systems, create and maintain engineering documentation, and support hands-on prototype assembly, bring-up, and debugging. You will collaborate with our multi-disciplinary engineering team to integrate and test these electronics in our advanced motor systems.

If you have a strong aptitude for electronics, proficiency in PCB design software (especially Altium), and enjoy working in a team to develop clean energy technologies, we invite you to apply and be part of our growth at Enedym.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design, layout, and routing of printed circuit boards (PCBs) for motor controllers, sensor arrays, and support electronics.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, including schematics, PCB fabrication files (Gerbers), and Bill of Materials (BOMs).

  • Perform hands-on assembly and soldering (SMT and through-hole) of prototype PCBs.

  • Lead the bring-up, debugging, and validation of new hardware using tools like oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and power supplies.

  • Build, test, and debug custom wire harnesses and cable assemblies for connecting system components.

  • Collaborate with mechanical and software engineers to integrate electronics into motor assemblies and system-level test environments.

  • Assist in troubleshooting and finding root-cause solutions for electronics-related issues in new and existing products.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering team.

  • Maintain clear documentation on test procedures, implementation processes, and results.

Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in an Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or related post-secondary program.

  • Demonstrable experience with PCB design software; strong preference for Altium Designer.

  • Strong hands-on aptitude with practical experience in soldering and assembling electronic prototypes.

  • Experience with electronics debugging and using common test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.).

  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and component datasheets.

  • Familiarity with creating or debugging wire harnesses and cable assemblies is a strong asset.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • A curious and proactive problem-solver, comfortable tackling ambiguous challenges.

A Note on Experience

We realize that the requirements listed here are broad for students. We value individuals who can learn quickly and problem-solve given little background or experience. If you find this position exciting and believe you have relevant skills, please apply.
