Working Title Program Therapist
Position Grade 12
Position Summary
The Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), within the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, is seeking a Program Therapist to support clinical care across the Divisions core service lines. Working under the direct guidance of PM&R physician faculty, the Program Therapist will provide clinical evaluation, assessment, consultation, and treatment services to patients across multiple sites, as part of an interdisciplinary care team.
New Mexico carries a disproportionately high burden of disability, driven in large part by conditions (traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, arthritis, etc.) that anchor PM&Rs clinical scope. This position allows existing physician faculty to operate at the top of their license, expands patient access, and supports the long-term sustainability of the Divisions rapidly growing inpatient and outpatient service lines.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conducts evaluations and recommends treatment for patients with acute and chronic pain and/or musculoskeletal injuries.
- Conducts patient evaluations, assessments, consultations, and treatment for patients with neurologic disorders including but not necessarily limited to brain injury, spinal cord injury, and peripheral nerve injury.
- Collaborates with other therapists and clinical staff to ensure patient care-related activities and issues are handled in a manner consistent with the expectations of PM&R attending physicians.
- Plans, schedules, and coordinates clinical activities in accordance with program protocol and applicable federal and state regulations and guidelines.
- Consults with individual patients, families, and service providers to develop treatment recommendations, interpret evaluation results, and coordinate the provision of care
- Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team, receiving guidance, training, and mentoring from PM&R physician faculty in planning and carrying out clinical assignments.
- Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance with program, billing, and regulatory requirements.
- Participates in educational, training, and outreach activities as needed to support program development.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree; no previous experience required.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelors or advanced degree in arehabilitation-related discipline (e.g., athletic training, kinesiology,exercise science, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or a related clinicalfield).
- Prior clinical experience in physical medicineand rehabilitation, orthopedics, neurorehabilitation, and/or pain managementsettings.
- Experience evaluating and treating patients withmusculoskeletal injury and/or chronic pain conditions.
- Relevant certification or licensure (e.g.,licensed athletic trainer, occupational therapy assistant, physical therapistassistant, or equivalent), where applicable to the assigned clinical duties.
- Experience working as part of aninterdisciplinary care team in an academic medical center or hospital-basedpractice.
- Familiarity with electronic health recordsystems (e.g., Cerner, Epic) and clinical documentation standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills,with the ability to work effectively with physicians, patients, families, andstaff from diverse backgrounds.
