Setting the Stage
Graduate Medical Education is essential to developing the next generation of physicians and strengthening the future of academic medicine. At RWJBarnabas Health, we are seeking an experienced Graduate Medical Education Manager to support the continued growth and standardization of GME operations at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center.
This newly established role will provide dedicated leadership and infrastructure across CBMC’s 16 training programs, helping strengthen institutional knowledge, accreditation readiness, financial continuity, and program development. Working closely with the Chief Academic Officer, GME leadership, Program Directors, and Rutgers Health partners, you’ll have an opportunity to help shape how Graduate Medical Education continues to evolve across the organization.
A Typical Day
As the Graduate Medical Education Manager, you’ll serve as a key institutional resource supporting GME operations, accreditation, finance, and strategic initiatives. Your responsibilities may include:
- Managing GMEC logistics, ACGME data submissions, and accreditation-related activities across sponsored programs.
- Partnering with the Institutional GME Coordinator to capture, document, and standardize institutional knowledge and core GME processes.
- Developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) to promote consistency and reduce single-point-of-failure risk across GME operations.
- Cross-training in Medicare DGME/IME tracking, GME cost reporting, and funding models in partnership with Rutgers Health.
- Serving as backup to the GME Finance Coordinator to support continuity of CMS reporting and other financial responsibilities.
- Maintaining familiarity with New Innovations administration and program-level accreditation metrics.
- Leading institutional GME initiatives, including new program development, simulation integration, and faculty development programming.
- Supporting the standardization of GME policies and workflows across all 16 specialties.
- Partnering with Program Directors and Program Coordinators to support accreditation readiness and effective program administration.
- Serving as a strategic resource to the Chief Academic Officer regarding training program expansion and academic enterprise growth.
- Collaborating with RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Health GME leadership to support policy alignment, reporting, and institutional priorities.
This Role Might Be For You If...
- You have a strong understanding of Graduate Medical Education and enjoy working at the institutional level across multiple residency or fellowship programs.
- You are comfortable navigating ACGME requirements and translating regulatory expectations into practical processes.
- You enjoy creating structure, documenting processes, and developing standardized workflows.
- You understand that successful GME operations require strong partnerships among physicians, coordinators, finance teams, and academic leadership.
- You are interested in both the operational and financial sides of Graduate Medical Education.
- You enjoy identifying opportunities to strengthen programs rather than simply maintaining existing processes.
- You can manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, organization, and attention to regulatory requirements.
- You are energized by the opportunity to help build infrastructure for the continued growth of an academic medical center.
To Be Considered
Qualified candidates will possess:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of three (3) years of Graduate Medical Education coordinator experience required
- Active TAGME certification required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with ACGME institutional requirements
- Understanding of GME finance fundamentals
- Strong organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with physician leaders, Program Directors, Program Coordinators, academic leadership, and external partners
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and develop standardized processes across multiple programs
Preferred qualifications include:
- Previous experience within a multi-program, institutionally sponsored academic medical center
- Experience with new innovations
- Experience developing SOPs, policies, or standardized workflows across multiple departments or training programs
