POSITION SUMMARY
The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring purchased materials, components, and supplier manufacturing processes consistently meet company, customer, and regulatory quality requirements. This position supports supplier qualification and development, APQP and PPAP activities, supplier audits, incoming quality improvement, and resolution of supplier-related quality issues.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Evaluate and monitor supplier quality performance using scorecards, quality metrics, defect trends, PPM, corrective action performance, and other measures to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
- Lead supplier-related nonconformance and corrective-action activities, including containment, disposition, Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), structured root cause analysis, 8D problem solving, permanent corrective actions, and verification of effectiveness.
- Conduct supplier qualifications, quality-system, and process audits to assess technical capabilities, manufacturing processes, quality systems, operational risks, and compliance with company and customer requirements.
- Support supplier selection and development by participating in technical reviews, evaluating supplier capabilities, identifying quality risks, and driving improvement plans for underperforming or developing suppliers.
- Support APQP and PPAP activities for new products, suppliers, process changes, and engineering changes, including review of control plans, PFMEAs, process capability, measurement systems, PPAP documentation, and production readiness.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, technical requirements, and quality documentation, including application of GD&T principles, to verify supplier compliance and product conformity.
- Analyze supplier and product quality data using statistical and analytical methods to identify trends, determine root causes, reduce defects, and recommend preventive and continuous improvement actions.
- Drive supplier process and quality improvement initiatives through structured problem solving, Lean/Six Sigma methodologies, defect reduction, dimensional analysis, process stabilization, and preventive action planning.
- Manage supplier quality documentation and records, including audit results, corrective actions, qualification records, PPAP status, nonconforming material, supplier performance data, and applicable quality-system documentation.
- Ensure supplier compliance with applicable company standards, customer-specific requirements, quality management systems, and relevant industry or regulatory requirements.
- Provide timely technical support and communication to suppliers, internal stakeholders, customers, and global teams regarding supplier quality performance, investigations, corrective actions, and quality-related issues.
Additional REQUIRED Qualifications/Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant technical experience may be considered where appropriate.
- Three to five years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, quality engineering, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of structured quality and problem solving methodologies, including 8D/root-cause analysis, corrective action, PFMEA, Control Plans, APQP, PPAP, SPC, and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
- Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, technical documentation, and dimensional requirements, including working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to evaluate quality data, identify trends, determine root causes, and drive issues through effective resolution and closure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience working with quality management systems, customer portals, databases, and related reporting or data analysis tools.
Additional PREFERRED Qualifications/Skills:
- Experience in automotive, aerospace, defense, medical device, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment, including familiarity with applicable standards such as IATF 16949, ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485, or related quality systems.
- Experience with supplier product/process validation, production process verification, First Article Inspection, process capability studies, measurement-system qualification, or related supplier-development activities.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, EDM, molding, casting, injection molding, composites, additive manufacturing, or other commodity specific manufacturing technologies.
- Ability to travel as required (30%)
