POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a variety of duties to coordinate the assignment of beds throughout the facility for patients being admitted to the hospital. Facilitates patient admission on-site and from outside the facility. The aim is to balance the access demands of the Emergency department and those of urgent/non-urgent elective work with available beds.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Formal Education / Training:
Bachelor’s degree required
Knowledge of medical terminology
Workplace Experience:
Basic office experience.
Equipment and Skills Training:
Demonstrates knowledge of patient flow and clinical coordination in an acute care facility. Demonstrates knowledge in the utilization of IT program related to bed management and patient flow. Demonstrates excellent organizational and time management skills. Demonstrates excellent communication skills. Multi-task oriented.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Responsible for the operational day-to day management of beds throughout the hospital. Monitors patient demand and availability of beds through the electronic bed management system.
- Prioritizes requests in accordance with department practices and policies. Applies functional knowledge of inpatient hospital units
- Assigns bed through bed reservation requests utilizing knowledge of patient diagnoses and physician preferences. Provides relevant patient information to admitted unit as outlined in bed reservation.
- Facilitates patient transfers from outside facilities. Creates bed assignments for accepted patients.
- Facilitates direct patient admits from physician practices. Creates bed assignments for accepted patients.
- Identifies and responds to barriers identified as impediments to safe and efficient patient flow. Works in partnership with the Nursing Supervisor to resolve issues and mitigate future barriers.
- Establishes, develops and maintains working relationships with all stakeholders regarding patient flow.
- Demonstrates use of quality improvement and LEAN activities in daily operations. Assists in the collection of data when required
- Attends and or participates in meetings/LEAN teams as directed. Supports process improvement within department.
- Maintains work area and personal appearance in a way that reflects professionalism and demonstrates to our patients, visitors and coworkers the importance we place on cleanliness, orderliness and safety.
