Summary:

AUI is looking to fill a full-time estimator for the BESS division. The primary role of the Electrical Estimator is to be involved in all aspects of the bid and estimating process. This position will be tasked with reviewing plans and specs, and the negotiating process with our industry partners. They will be responsible for the whole package of a bid from quantity take-off pricing, scoping, and bidding of the construction projects.

Responsibilities:

  1. Investigate project site before bid to identify potential problems, access issues, haul routes, waste areas, borrow areas, staging areas, dump sites, etc.
  2. Determine project scope and scope of work to be self-performed and subcontracted
  3. Issue invitations to bid and supply bid documents to potential subcontractors and suppliers via online plan rooms
  4. Serve as company liaison to subcontractors and vendors during the bidding process
  5. Perform complete and accurate quantity takeoffs for individual items of work
  6. Maintain an accurate estimate file including correspondence, takeoff, addenda, photos, quotations, estimating software report, and bid submittal documents
  7. Ensures all documentation specific to the respective discipline is appropriately represented in the estimate.
  8. Conduct and facilitate Final Estimate Review with Management
  9. Ensure bid submittal documents are completed fully and correctly
  10. Complete estimate buyout, issue letters of intent and prepare the estimate information notebook
  11. Conduct hand-off meeting with project personnel
  12. Coordinate and work closely with Project Managers during the project
  13. Investigate value engineering options as required
  14. Assist with identifying potential projects within the marketplace which align with the company’s goals, expertise, and operational needs
  15. Reviews and identifies strategy of bid related documentation, such as general conditions and indirect cost, contract terms and other documents.
  16. Participates in Business Development pursuits and presentations as needed.
  17. Performs business development, networking and marketing activities related to securing clients and winning programs/projects


  1. Minimum 5 plus years of construction estimating experience.
  2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year university in Construction Science or Electrical Engineering is preferred, but not required.
  3. Systems knowledge of civil, mechanical, electrical components
  4. Background with an electrical contractor, preferably with a focus on BESS/Solar projects preferred.
  5. Outstanding communication and negotiation skills.
  6. Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  7. Strong computer skills with MS Office suite, as well as other industry-standard tools and estimating software.
  8. Analytical and detail oriented.
  9. Creative and able to problem solve in a highly dynamic environment.
  10. Exceptional writing and oral communication skills.
