SCHEDULE - Full-time
2pm11pm, includes weekends. Schedule subject to change to meet the needs of shelter operations.


ABOUT GATEWAY WEST
Gateway West, located at 7440 Jim McDowell NW, is the City’s largest shelter and serves an average of 600 people per night, with cold winter nights bringing in more than 700 people. The shelter offers a safe and welcoming environment to men and women experiencing homelessness in Albuquerque. The center is open year-round, offering meals, a warm bed, and secure under-bed storage. Shuttle service is provided daily.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Shelter Dorm Monitor is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive environment within the shelter dormitory. This role involves overseeing resident activities, ensuring compliance with shelter policies, and providing support to individuals experiencing homelessness. The Dorm Monitor plays a key role in fostering a sense of community and respect among residents.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience; experience in social services or related fields preferred
  • Prior experience working in a shelter, community organization, or social service setting is a plus
  • Understanding of homelessness issues and familiarity with available community resources
  • Possess a clear understanding of the critical importance of trauma-informed care in supporting participants
  • Be equipped to recognize the impact of trauma on individuals’ experiences and behaviors, and actively implement practices that promote safety, empowerment, and healing
  • Foster an environment of trust and respect that plays a vital role in helping the participants navigate their challenges and work towards stability and recovery
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting
  • Compassionate and non-judgmental attitude towards individuals experiencing homelessness
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle conflicts constructively
