Coordinator, Point of Care Testing at National Jewish Health – Denver, Colorado

Position Summary
This position coordinates Point of Care Testing (POCT) for National Jewish Health. Collaborates with Leadership, Physicians, Nursing staff and all applicable departments within ADx to ensure quality patient care delivery in compliance with laboratory accreditation requirements. Assists with operational and quality improvement efforts within Point of Care Testing.

Essential Duties

Coordinates Point of Care activities for National Jewish Health and Advanced Diagnostic Laboratories and its affiliated clinics.

In collaboration with leadership, maintains and documents regulatory operations of the POCT Program (CLIA, CAP, ISO 15189, CMS, and other regulatory bodies as needed) to ensure compliance to: safety regulations, lab accreditation, federal regulations, quality control, instrument usage, preventive maintenance and over-all laboratory standards of operation.

Maintains the Point of Care program and its components and oversee all laboratory tests performed outside the physical facility of the clinical laboratory.

Reviews all manually entered test results for feasibility and accuracy before releasing results. Reviews all manually entered reference lab results prior to release, as needed. Reviews all POCT orders, reporting results, and billings. Reviews electronically transferred results, reviews and reconciles exceptions, and verifies EMR results utilizing Telcor QML middleware, as needed.

Maintains personal competencies for all and POCT and evaluates the competency of all personnel, and ensures that staff maintains their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately, and proficiently. This includes directly observing routine patient test performance, specimen processing and handling technique and POCT.

Monitors use of equipment, reagents/supplies, and orders/stocks inventory to maintain adequate levels ensuring uninterrupted service.

Develops new POCT testing as directed and approved by the Medical Laboratory Director. Reviews and/or performs and documents the appropriate validation studies to verify the new procedure according to federal regulations. Reviews existing procedures for validity and appropriate methodology, accuracy, completeness, and quality measures.

Performs as a back up to staff absences and vacancies, as necessary.

Other Duties

Serves as a member on the POCT Committee and provides periodic updates to committee as directed.

Supports Core Laboratory staff to maintain adequate bench coverage and process patient testing during periods of short staffing, as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: BS in Biology, Chemistry or related field required.

Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years of recent and relevant experience.

Special Training, Certification or Licensure: Registered Medical Technologist (Generalist), Medical Laboratory Scientist (Generalist), or Medical Laboratory Technician (Generalist) with American Society of Clinical Pathologists required. For graduates 2004 and forward, re-certification with ASCP must occur every third year.

Salary Range: $35.00 - $40.00
