EDM Engineer

Role Objective
CoreDux USA is seeking an experienced EDM Manufacturing Engineer to lead the implementation, launch, and long-term growth of our new EDM Manufacturing Department. This role will provide engineering leadership for EDM process development, production readiness, and future technology expansion.
The EDM Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for establishing manufacturing processes, programming, tooling, fixturing, and production readiness for our Wire EDM and EDM Hole Drilling operations while developing the technical foundation for future Sinker EDM and automation initiatives.
This is a hands-on engineering position that combines manufacturing engineering, CNC programming, process development, new product introduction, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will play a key role in building CoreDux USA's EDM capability from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead the implementation, startup, and continuous improvement of the new EDM Manufacturing Department.
· Develop CNC programs for Wire EDM and EDM Hole Drilling equipment using engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and CAM software.
· Design and specify electrodes, fixturing, workholding, and tooling required for EDM manufacturing.
· Develop standardized manufacturing methods, setup sheets, process documentation, and engineering standards.
· Set up new jobs, prove out programs, and transition products into production.
· Develop optimized machining strategies, including flushing methods, skim cuts, cutting conditions, and electrode wear compensation.
· Review engineering drawings and GD&T requirements to develop robust manufacturing processes.
· Perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews and provide recommendations during new product introduction.
· Support estimating by developing manufacturing methods, routings, and cycle time estimates for EDM operations.
· Troubleshoot machining and process issues to improve quality, productivity, and equipment performance.
· Support First Article Inspection (FAI), PPAP activities, production inspection, and process capability studies.
· Develop standard work, tooling libraries, and manufacturing best practices.
· Train and mentor EDM operators while supporting production readiness.
· Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, cycle time reduction, waste elimination, and manufacturing excellence.
· Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to support production requirements.
· Work with the Maintenance Department to develop and execute preventive maintenance programs that maximize machine uptime and reliability.
· Evaluate new EDM technologies, tooling, consumables, automation, and manufacturing best practices.
· Develop the technical roadmap for future expansion into Sinker EDM, additional Wire EDM machines, automation, and lights-out manufacturing.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required. Equivalent combinations of education and directly related manufacturing engineering experience may be considered in exceptional cases.
· Minimum five (5) years of EDM manufacturing experience, including programming, setup, process development, and production support.
· Proficient using CAM software for CNC or EDM programming.
· Strong understanding of EDM machining theory, including spark erosion, flushing techniques, dielectric systems, skim cutting, and electrode wear.
· Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D CAD models.
· Experience developing manufacturing processes for precision aerospace, semiconductor, medical, or other high-precision components.
· Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
· Experience with precision inspection equipment.
· Experience machining tool steels, stainless steel, Inconel, titanium, aluminum, and copper alloys.
· Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and project management skills.
Additional Information
Preferred Skills
· Experience with Makino, Mitsubishi, Sodick, Agie, Charmilles, or similar EDM equipment.
· Experience with EDM or CNC CAM software.
· Experience using SolidWorks.
· Experience with JobBOSS ERP.
· Experience with UniPoint Quality Management System.
· Experience in an AS9100-certified manufacturing environment.
· Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, PPAP, First Article Inspection (FAI), and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
· Experience implementing automation, pallet systems, or lights-out manufacturing.
Performance Expectations
· The EDM Manufacturing Engineer will be be responsible for the successful implementation and long-term growth of CoreDux USA's EDM Manufacturing Department. Success in this role will be measured by:
· Successfully implement and launch the new EDM Manufacturing Department.
· Achieve production readiness for Wire EDM and EDM Hole Drilling operations.
· Develop safe, repeatable, and standardized manufacturing processes.
· Establish standard work, setup documentation, tooling standards, and process libraries.
· Train operators and support production readiness.
· Improve machine utilization and equipment uptime.
· Increase first-pass yield and process repeatability.
· Reduce cycle times, consumable costs, and scrap.
· Support on-time delivery through reliable manufacturing processes.
· Develop the technical roadmap for future expansion into Sinker EDM, additional EDM equipment, automation, and lights-out manufacturing.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to stand for long periods and move between different workstations.
· Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods.
· Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, heat, and other manufacturing conditions.
