Job Summary
The Chief Estimator is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the estimating department and ensuring accurate, competitive, and timely preparation of bids and proposals. This position plays a critical role in driving revenue growth by collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to secure projects across multiple sectors, including K-12 education, data centers, warehouses, semiconductor facilities, and other commercial properties.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 10+ years of experience in estimating within the general contracting industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Proven experience with K-12, data centers, warehouses, semiconductor facilities, and commercial projects.
Skills
• Strong knowledge of bid proposal processes and contract negotiation.
• Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to mentor and develop a high-performing estimating team.
• Strong financial acumen and understanding of cost control principles.
• Commitment to accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.
Work Context
This is primarily an office-based role with occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and industry events as needed.
Primary Job Duties
• Leadership & Management
o Oversee and manage the estimating department, including staffing, training, and performance evaluations.
o Develop and implement best practices, processes, and tools for accurate and efficient estimating.

Estimating & Bid Management
o Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for projects of varying size and complexity.
o Review and approve all final estimates before submission to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
o Analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to identify risks and opportunities.

Collaboration & Communication
o Work closely with the Revenue Team to align estimating strategies with business development goals.
o Collaborate with Operations, Finance, and Project Management teams to ensure estimates reflect realistic costs and schedules.
o Engage with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to clarify scope and negotiate pricing.

Market & Industry Expertise
o Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, material costs, labor rates, and subcontractor availability.
o Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.

Technology & Process Improvement
o Utilize estimating software and digital tools to streamline workflows and improve accuracy.
o Continuously evaluate and implement new technologies and methodologies to enhance department efficiency.
