Position Summary
At Beanfield, we build, own, and operate the largest independent fibre-optic network in Toronto and Montreal. The layout of our ever-expanding network requires meticulous care from a handful of dedicated teams.
Our OSP Construction Design team is an integral part of that process and is currently growing. Reporting to the Design Manager, the OSP Design Technician will support all OSP design team activities that lead to the delivery of projects and the operation and maintenance of Beanfield-installed infrastructure.
This position requires a self-starter who can hit the ground running, with the expectation that the chosen candidate will continue their growth within the company, eventually leading multiple network expansion projects.
Role and Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning of OSP routes for the expansion of Beanfield network infrastructure
- Create full design packages for:
- Municipal Consent Applications
- Third-Party Attachments applications or Shared Structures permit applications
- Prepare drawings for the installation of fiber optic cable and conduit in residential and commercial buildings
- Maintain and update documentation on the company GIS program (Patch Manager)
- Monitor and submit Third-Party Attachment permits and Municipal Consent permits to various entities
- Support the heavy construction department by resolving design issues during construction
- Manage consultants’ work for limited-scope design projects
- Attend coordination meetings as Beanfield representative where Beanfield is a stakeholder
- Provide project support to OSP Planning staff
- Provide supervision and direction to junior staff
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Design Manager
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years in a comparable position
- Bilingual French preferred but not required
- Experience with fibre optic networks
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft applications, AutoCAD, GIS software
- Experience managing multiple, simultaneous, high-volume projects
- Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Detail-oriented with strong aptitude for tracking progress across many projects
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, verbal, and time management skills
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of technical drawing presentation
- Civil construction principles, both theory and practical
- Knowledge of fibre optic design and architecture
- Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, concepts, practices, and procedures and their potential impact on business
