School of Dental Medicine - Dental Clinic Clerk II

Step into an important role that keeps the school and clinic connected, informed, and running efficiently. As a Dental Clinic Clerk II, you'll be the communication hub for students, faculty, residents, team leaders, and patients, ensuring smooth patient management and supporting the daily operations of a busy teaching clinic. Your professionalism and attention to detail will help create a welcoming, well-coordinated environment for everyone who walks through the door.

What You'll Do

Patient Communication & Support
  • Provide, relay, and retrieve information to assist students, dentists, team leaders, and faculty with patient management.
  • Respond to routine questions from patients, families, staff, faculty, and students.
  • Help patients understand clinic policies that affect their treatment.
  • Assist in resolving patient care concerns or refer issues to the appropriate staff member when needed.

Clinic Operations & Administrative Support
  • Prepare, maintain, distribute, retrieve, and file electronic patient charts.
  • Utilize the clinical information system, kiosks, reports, and databases to support patient care and clinic needs.
  • Assist team leaders in ensuring students use clinic time efficiently by providing information and recording attendance.
  • Support scheduling of rotations and maintain clinical photos and request forms.

Communication & Information Management
  • Type form letters to physicians, private dentists, and patients for faculty, residents, and students.
  • Answer, screen, and route telephone inquiries; take messages, transfer calls, or locate individuals via the public address system.
  • Broadcast pertinent announcements over the PA system.
  • Provide verbal and written information regarding clinic operations, policies, and procedures.

Team Support & Coordination
  • Assist team leaders in ensuring all patients are actively being treated, transferred, placed on recall, or inactivated through appropriate computer entries.
  • Help train employees, students, residents, and faculty in clinic procedures and systems.
  • Assist with logging cases in and out of external professional dental laboratories.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  1. High school graduation or equivalent.
  2. One year (12 months) of experience:
    1. comparable to that performed at the Dental Clinic Clerk I level of this series
      OR
    2. Certified Dental Assistant in a dental clinic facility, program, or in dentistry practice, if required by employing institution

Preferred qualifications:
This person must be an experienced dental assistant with knowledge of dentistry. Should possess; knowledge (and have experience) working chair-side, taking most types of dental radiographs, knowledge of dental procedures, techniques, terminology and practice. Computer skills are necessary to perform some of the clerical duties. In addition, this staff person must demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate and work harmoniously with patients, parents, staff, students and faculty. This position requires a high degree of interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
