About This Position

GENERAL SUMMARY
-
The Manager, Clinical Research works collaboratively with research investigator(s) to support clinical research within the division. The position is responsible for the operations, administration, coordination, database management and reporting requirements for the division’s approved clinical research. Reports to department leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Assures and maintains professional standards for clinical practices in conducting clinical investigations.

Possesses and maintains an in-depth knowledge of federal regulations and guidance documents required for clinical trials and human subject protection, assuring compliance with protocol and regulatory requirements, and by collecting, recording and maintaining data and source documents.

Responsible for industry research budget development, research contract negotiations, coordination of contract approval processes and assists director with grants management and oversight of financial resources.

Manages and directs workflow and functions of personnel to facilitate safe and efficient work practices.

Works collaboratively throughout the health system on research related activities.

Leads, manages, coaches, and trains a team or department, provides guidance, support, and mentors to ensure optimal performance and productivity.

Oversees the recruitment, hiring, team/department orientation, performance appraisals and disciplinary actions including up to termination processes for a team or department.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

Required Licenses and/or Certifications

Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications

Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license preferred.

Certification in clinical research (CCRP, CCRC) preferred.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master’s degree in healthcare related field preferred.

Three to five years clinical research experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-
Working knowledge and proficiency with the application of regulatory guidelines for human subject research in a health system setting necessary.
-
Demonstrated proficiency utilizing MS Office Suite and research related software.
-
Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (written and oral) necessary in order to collaboratively interact with researchers, staff and outside agencies in a prompt and professional manner.

Demonstrated ability to work independently while managing multiple and competing deadlines.

WORKING CONDITIONS
-
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like. Periodic exposure to infection and/or contagious disease, blood, body fluids, or tissues when conducting research related activities in patient care areas, providing instruction to clinical personnel and patients/families. May require travel to other locations as needed based on monitoring, follow up and enrollment at various sites.
