Our orthopaedic practice is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and dependable medical assistant.

A successful candidate will have strong communication skills, be friendly and helpful to our patients, be competent in basic computer skills, and be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

This is a nonexempt position responsible for performing a variety of duties in both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services. May be assigned to specific orthopedic specialty (e.g., pain management / spine / total joint, etc) depending on Physician they are appointed to.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Accompany provider in room during patient visit.
  • Scribe document in Athena to include: history of present illness, review of systems, physical exam findings, diagnostic assessment and plan of care.
  • Document results of laboratory and radiographic studies as discussed by provider.
  • Refill any patient prescriptions as directed by the provider.
  • Enter orders for procedures or labs as directed by the provider.
  • Maintain exam rooms with necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination
  • Maintain accurate patient records.
  • Responsible for following OSHA regulations.
  • Regularly interacts with physicians and other departments in order to identify and resolve problems.
  • Maintains patient, employee and clinic confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education

High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)

Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a community college course in medical assisting

Experience

Minimum (1) year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office.

Other Requirements Preferred

Appropriate certificate indicating passing grade for Medical Assistant Certification.

A current CPR certification and current health records with the appropriate immunizations to work in the healthcare field (hepatitis B and tuberculosis).

*Must be able to travel between office locations. Clean driving record. Reliable transportation.*

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures.
  • Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical practice.
  • Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.

Skills:

  • Skill in performing scribe / medical assistant tasks appropriately.
  • Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
  • Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.

Abilities:

  • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
  • Ability to learn and navigate within EMR/EPM system. AthenaNet experience a plus!
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.

Work Environment

Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Well-lighted, well-ventilated, adequate space.

Mental/Physical Requirements

Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of supplies. Occasional stress from dealing with many staff and patients'.
