Job Description
Responsibilities
The Infection Preventionist (IP) provides education and consultation to the organization in infection prevention practices and regulatory compliance with infection prevention standards. Applies education and professional experience in daily practice and education of staff members. Utilizes national standards and guidelines as well as regulations, state laws and compliance organization recommendations to maintain a safe patient environment and establish best practice within the organization. Remains current with IP issues, infections and communicable diseases related to all age groups from neonate/infants through geriatrics. Knowledge of the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) patient safety surveillance and reporting program is essential. Utilizes National Health Safety Network (NHSN) infection definitions to perform surveillance and identify trends or outbreaks of infections. Maintaining a current knowledge in IP practices and technology is essential to provide effective, ongoing surveillance of general and special ventilation, water controls, construction, regulated and unregulated waste, pest control, environmental, furniture and equipment cleaning, disinfection and sterilization, supply selection and management. Demonstrates effective communication skills and a proficiency in standard computer programs such as Word, Excel and Power Point programs and is able to generate effective reports and presentations.

Qualifications
Required:
- One year as an RN
- Bachelor Degree
- Certification in Infection Prevention and Control Eligible to test for CIC within two years of hire and successfully obtain CIC within three years of hire. AND Registered Nurse
Desired:
- One year as an Infection Preventionist RN
- Master Degree
