COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS PARKS AND RECREATION SERVICE AREA
Position Title: PT Parks Supervisor
Position Characteristics: Seasonal, part-time, no benefits. Flexible schedule, primarily working on weekends.
Department: Parks
Position Purpose:
Responsible for maintaining Service Area parks and grounds efficiently so as to provide a clean, safe, and comfortable atmosphere for patrons. PT Parks Supervisor may be assigned to a specific park to maintain and supervise. He/She may also be assigned as a Project Leader. Complete refurbishing and cleaning duties as assigned by FT Parks Supervisors, Parks Manager or Executive Director. Perform regular turf acre, complete daily maintenance of all courts and athletic fields, and schedule maintenance crews as needed.
Nature and Scope:
This position requires attention to detail, good physical health and strength, and the ability to work well independently. Incumbent must be able to operate all related equipment and machinery and possess good time management skills in order to successfully execute this position.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties:
- Assume responsibility for effectively and efficiently maintaining Service Area grounds and parks.
- Parks Lead will be assigned to an Area to supervise. Areas include: Butler Park & Recreation Center, Bywater Park, Mountview Park, Antczak Park, and City Areas.
- Care for turf areas regularly. Mow, edge, trim, prune, weed, spot water, and perform other duties as necessary.
- Complete refurbishment and cleaning duties as assigned.
- Maintain ball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts daily as assigned.
- Inspect and perform minor repairs on playground equipment as assigned.
- Clean restrooms and pavilions daily.
- Inspect ground and facilities to ensure a safe environment.
- Assume responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective working relations with area personnel and with management.
- Schedule maintenance crew activities as necessary to ensure a clean and safe park atmosphere.
- Attend staff meetings as required.
- Keep management well informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
- Assist area staff as needed.
- Maintain a current and accurate inventory of tools and supplies.
- Assume responsibility for other duties as assigned.
- Follows established safety procedures.
- Keeps work area clean and free of clutter.
- Assume responsibility for supervision of Seasonal Park Workers.
- Ensure that each park is efficiently managed.
- Ensure all safety procedures are being followed by the seasonal Park Workers.
- Inspects playground equipment, ball diamonds, grounds, restrooms, and pavilions for cleanliness and safety.
Performance Measurements:
- Service Area parks are safe, comfortable, and well-maintained.
- Turf areas are cared for regularly and effectively.
- Preventative maintenance is performed as scheduled on lawn equipment.
- Scheduling of maintenance crews is efficient and effective.
- Management is well informed of area activities.
- Safety procedures are followed in accordance with established standards.
Qualifications:
Training/Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License and a copy of their Motor Vehicle Record to be provided prior to employment.
- Approved Criminal Background Investigation check if over 18 years of age.
Required Knowledge:
- Familiar with a wide variety of power driven machinery and gas powered lawn equipment.
Experience Required:
- Minimum of 1 year turf management experience.
- Experience in building or landscaping preferred.
- Experience as a leadsman or foreman or equivalent of 1 year supervisory experience.
Skills/Abilities:
- Good physical health and strength.
- Good organization skills.
- Able to work evenings and weekends.
- Basic mechanical and handyman abilities.
Physical Activities and Requirements of this Position:
Climbing: Including ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc. Amount and type of climbing is more than that needed for ordinary movement.
Balancing: May involve walking, standing, crouching on narrow, slippery or moving surfaces.
Stooping: Bending downward and forward at the waist. Requires full use of lower extremities and back muscles.
Kneeling: Resting on knee or knees.
Crouching: Bending downward and forward at the leg and spine.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Standing: For extended time periods.
Walking: Especially for short distances.
Pushing: Using upper body to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects.
Pulling: Using upper body to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects.
Lifting: Occurs frequently and requires substantial use of upper body and back muscles.
Finger Dexterity: Pinching, typing, etc., primarily with fingers only.
Talking: Especially when one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Grasping: Using fingers and palm on an object.
Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
Seeing: Average, ordinary, vision acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.
Physical Strength: Very heavy work, exert more than 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or more than 50 lbs. frequently, and/or more than 20 lbs. regularly.
Working Conditions:
- Works both inside and outside. Subject to weather.
- Must work in extreme heat for more than an hour. Temperatures above 100 degrees.
- Must work under hazardous conditions including high places, chemical exposures, electrical current, moving machinery, exposure to blood, etc.
Mental Activities and Requirements of this Position:
General Education-Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, involved instructions and to deal with problems involving several concrete variables.
General Education-Mathematics Ability: Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing two digit numbers; to perform the four basic arithmetic operations with coins as part of a dollar; to perform operations with units such as inch, foot, and yard; ounce and pound (or their metric counterparts).
General Education-Language Ability: Ability to recognize the meaning of 2,500 (2 and 3 syllable) words; to read (by sight or Braille) at a very slow rate; to compare similarities and difference between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and communicate in simple sentences.
