The Opportunity

Support Innovative Tensioned Fabric Structure Projects.

SHADE Industries is a premier specialty contractor based in Phoenix, specializing in the design and installation of custom Shade Sails and tensioned fabric structures. We are seeking a highly skilled Design Drafter to serve as the vital link between conceptual design and physical fabrication, transforming ideas into technical realities.

This role offers the unique chance to work on diverse, custom projects across the residential, commercial, industrial, and government sectorsmeaning no two structures are ever the same! What You Will Be Doing

You will be the technical hub of our projects, ensuring that what our clients envision can be safely and accurately built by our fabrication teams:

  • CAD Drafting & Design: Develop precise 2D CAD drafting and design support for complex, custom shade structures.
  • Plan Composition: Draft and compose complete, highly accurate plan sets for client approval and formal engineering review.
  • Team Coordination: Coordinate seamlessly with our internal engineering, installation, and fabrication teams to integrate structural corrections and plan revisions.
  • Shop Preparation: Generate detailed steel cut sheets to facilitate precise, error-free shop fabrication.
  • Advanced Visualization: Utilize 3D modeling techniques to assist in advanced design visualization.
  • Field & Office Integration: Conduct 3D laser measuring on-site and actively assist with the formal permit submittal process.
What You Need to Succeed (Qualifications)
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of professional experience utilizing AutoCAD (2012 or newer).
  • Technical Skills: The proven ability to accurately read and interpret complex technical specifications and structural drawings. (Experience with 3D design software, Adobe Illustrator, or Acrobat is a huge plus!)
  • Industry Knowledge: Prior experience in a specialty construction, architectural, or fabric structure environment is highly preferred.
  • Mindset: Strong communication skills with the demonstrated ability to work independently while managing multiple project timelines simultaneously.
  • Licensure & Travel: A valid Drivers License with a good driving record, plus a reliable personal car/truck for local site visits. A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
