About This Position

The primary responsibilities of the Dean is to support the mission of the College and successfully supervise and manage counseling and advising as a central pillar of student success. This role works in conjunction with the Dean of Enrollment Management to execute strategies related to persistence, retention and completion. The Dean is responsible for developing a high-performing and cohesive team. This position also supports and collaborates with academics as a responsibility pertaining to Counseling Faculty.
This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required:

1. Collaborates with co-curriculum faculty to develop, deliver and monitor service and courses that are learner-center and supports student success.
2. Direct and support caseload management and student support to drive retention.
3. Monitor caseload performance, student momentum and outcomes for all students.
4. Develop and manage professional development plans and engagement to promote continuous improvement and action research related to retention initiatives.
5. Foster a student-centered high accountability and professional team culture.
6. Maintain a clear standard of care for entire student lifecycle to completion.
7. Identify and scale high-impact strategies that support a sense of belonging and positively impact retention KPIs.
8. Support caseload work and manage staffing models and caseload distribution.
9. Facilitates implementation of policies, procedures, and objectives at the college level.
10. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of curriculum and programs to support student success and outcome assessments.
11. Support management and standards for career counseling and scope of practice for personal counseling services.
12. Reviews and approve departmental budgets; monitor and manage expenditures.
13. Supervises faculty and staff; conducts performance evaluations.
14. Represent the College in appropriate community and professional organizations.
15. Facilitate and implement platforms that will streamline processes and allow integrations of real-time student support for post-secondary academic success and completion.
16. Engages in shared governance pursuant to labor agreements, College policy, and applicable laws.
17. Mediate conflicts and resolve issues involving faculty, staff and students; meets with students to discuss concerns and assists in devising equitable responses and solutions.
18. Performs other related duties, as assigned.
19. Ability to work additional hours, as needed.

•Understanding of collective bargaining and contract maintenance
EDUCATION: Master’s degree. Ph.D. in counseling preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience with increasing administrative responsibility at a community college and/or lower division of four-year college or university, or a combined total of four (4) or more years full-time work experience with administrative responsibility in Student Services. College teaching experience preferred.
