Job Description
Position Summary:
The project manager is responsible for managing engineered-to-order projects from order intake through delivery and installation as applicable. The position identifies, coordinates, and manages cross-functional teams, establish clear communications, and anticipates and mitigates risk(s) to ensure successful project execution.
Essential Functions:
• Establishes project scope reflective of sales order, customer purchase orders, and customer specifications/requirements.
• Initiate project kickoff meetings for all volume units and custom units as required.
• Coordinate cross-functional resources (engineering, manufacturing, testing, quality) and third-party vendors to execute projects efficiently.
• Serves as primary customer interface, managing communication, expectations, and ship date commitments (level of interaction may vary by product line).
• Manage project scope addition or deletion with change orders, ensuring all changes are documented and approved.
• Create and manage expedited schedules as required.
• Project lead times as required on strategic pre-sale projects and customer requests.
• Submit and manage customer approvals such as general layouts, long lead bill of materials, and any applicable approvals as required by project.
• Project ship dates for current orders with consideration for engineering, customer approvals, critical component procurement, manufacturing, and testing.
• Coordinate and participate in customer visits at Douglas Machine Incorporated to ensure all systems and/or components meet customer specifications and expectations.
• Coordinate project closeout activities, including necessary teardown, special shipping restrictions, and delivery requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of project management tools, processes, and best practices as applicable.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge / Skills / Expertise:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field required.
• Minimum (5) years’ experience managing projects in a custom OEM preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills along with verbal and written communication skills to work effectively within a team environment. Proficient with Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Project, cell/PDA, laptop, etc., with above average typing, spelling, grammar, and excel skills and ability to adapt to new technology.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
• Proficiency in latest computerized design applications (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Solid Edge) desired.
• Experience with sanitary applications in the food/beverage industry desired.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desired.
Environmental Conditions:
• Works in normal office environment and makes occasional customer visits requiring air travel or driving personal vehicle.
• Works at manufacturing site to survey conditions and resolve coordination issues with manufacturing.
• Occasional travel to customer plant locations is required – up to 20%. Must maintain a valid driver’s license in good standings.
• Humidity level in the shop will be elevated during summer months.
• Exposure to certain contaminants in the shop, at times.
• Exposure to loud noise levels in the shop, at times.
Physical Demands:
• This position requires occasional use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials, as required conducting engineering activities.
• Climbing on ladders may be required at times in association with testing.
• The use of safety equipment such as safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, gloves, helmets and hearing protection is utilized daily in the plant.
• While performing the duties of the job, the employee must be able to use a keyboard, calculator and telephone.
• Required to stand or walk, sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, grasp, handle, or feel.
• Must be able to lift and maneuver 25 lbs. without physical restrictions.
