Description:

Summary

The Director of Infrastructure is responsible for the design, delivery, and reliability of the organization’s core IT infrastructure environment. This role oversees the underlying systems that enable all IT services, including network, cloud platforms, servers, storage, VPN, and telecommunications.

This is a hands-on leadership role combining deep technical expertise with strategic oversight. The Director will serve as a key partner to the CIO, Director of Service Operations, and Information Security team, ensuring infrastructure is secure, scalable, and highly available across a distributed, hybrid environment supporting ~2,700 users across 100 locations.

This role is central to the organization’s IT service delivery model, owning the architecture and performance of the systems that operate behind the scenes.

Responsibilities

Infrastructure Strategy & Architecture

  • Own and define the enterprise infrastructure architecture across cloud and on-prem environments
  • Design and evolve scalable, resilient, and secure infrastructure solutions in alignment with organizational needs
  • Establish standards, patterns, and best practices for infrastructure design and deployment
  • Partner with the CIO and engineering resources to evaluate and implement new technologies

Cloud & Core Systems Ownership

  • Lead the design, implementation, and operation of cloud infrastructure platforms (within Microsoft ecosystem, with exposure to Google Workspace)
  • Oversee compute, storage, networking, and virtualization environments
  • Ensure proper integration between cloud services, on-prem systems, and end-user environments
  • Collaborate with Information Security team on access controls and secure configurations

Network & Connectivity

  • Own enterprise network architecture across ~100 locations, including LAN/WAN, VPN, and internet connectivity
  • Oversee telecom services and vendor coordination as needed
  • Ensure network performance, segmentation, and reliability meet operational demands

Service Reliability & Performance

  • Accountable for infrastructure uptime, performance, and service-level commitments
  • Partner with Service Operations and the NOC on monitoring, incident response, and root cause analysis
  • Participate in major incident response as a technical leader when infrastructure systems are involved
  • Drive continuous improvement in system reliability and resilience

Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery

  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-related BC/DR capabilities in partnership with the CIO
  • Ensure systems can meet recovery objectives aligned with business needs
  • Regularly evaluate and test recovery strategies

Security & Compliance Enablement

  • Partner with Information Security to implement and maintain secure infrastructure configurations
  • Support compliance efforts related to HIPAA, PCI, JCAHO, and AAAHC
  • Ensure infrastructure aligns with security policies, including endpoint protection (EDR) and identity systems (IAM) managed by InfoSec

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor a small but growing infrastructure team
  • Provide technical direction, prioritization, and hands-on support as needed
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Operate as a peer to the Director of Service Operations in delivering end-to-end IT services
  • Work closely with the CIO on strategic planning, architecture decisions, and technology direction
  • Partner with Information Security as both an implementer and advisor on secure infrastructure

Vendor & Financial Input

  • Manage vendor relationships for infrastructure technologies and services as needed
  • Provide input into budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimization for infrastructure investments
  • Support the CIO in evaluating vendor solutions and contract decisions

Maintain a clean and safe work environment

Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred but not required

Certifications/Licensure

  • Related certifications such as MCSE, CCNA/NP, ITIL preferred.

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure, including leadership responsibilities
  • Experience designing and supporting hybrid environments at scale
  • Proven ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in technical environments

Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience across:
  • Cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure preferred)
  • Networking (routing, switching, VPNs, multi-site environments)
  • Systems (Windows environments, virtualization, storage)

Soft Skills

  • Technically credible leader who can both design and troubleshoot systems
  • Strong collaborator who works effectively across Service Operations and Security
  • Practical architect who balances ideal design with operational realities
  • Calm and decisive during incidents and high-impact situations
  • Focused on reliability, scalability, and long-term sustainability

Physical Requirements

  • Stand or sit for extended periods of time

Base salary offers for this position may vary based on factors such as location, skills and relevant experience.
