Description:

Veterinary Technician - in a rescue clinic setting

Pay range $18-20 based on experience

Wellness and surgeries

40 hours per week

One position is Mon-Fri

One position is Thurs-Mon

  • Please note: this is a small rescue with a presiding doctor and standing treatment protocols. All medical activities are approved by the State Board of Veterinarians to be performed by a vet tech without a doctor present (following written protocols) as these animals are owned by Three Little Pitties. Doctors are in house often, but not yet full-time. Must be comfortable working in a tech-driven office.
  • Represent organization as a point of contact with fosters; requires strong customer service skills for polite behavior even in stressful encounters. Representing the organization professionally with our customers: the fosters, volunteers, and adopters.
  • Multitask in fast paced environment
  • Follow and accurately execute daily routine of duties set forth by Director
  • Update & input medical records in computer system during appointments
  • Various Reception duties
  • Handle medical appointments in office
  • Keep work areas tidy, organized and well stocked
  • Sanitize all clinic areas daily: Sweep/mop daily, Take out trash daily, Maintain sterile conditions, Clean animal cages and equipment.
  • Inventory monitoring
  • Future opportunity to learn and assist in surgeries and surgery prep, anesthesia monitoring, post op monitoring, sedation, intubation, clean up, Sterilization and preparing surgery packs
  • Heartworm treatment- Assist in restraint and distraction as doctor administers the medication. Obtains and verifies medications.
  • Maintains safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing operating areas, verifying shelf life of medications, and complying with legal regulations.
  • Enhances service reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Requirements:
  • Basic medical, Vacc, deworming, blood draws, restraint, etc
  • Laboratory work: fecals, urinalysis, bloodwork, tests
  • Sick and wellness
  • Comprehensive full body exams
  • General working knowledge of veterinary database platforms and technology
  • Working knowledge of the pharmaceuticals that are prescribed by the Veterinarian
  • Good listening skills
  • Compassion
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Physical stamina; Fast paced environment with physical ability to lift 50 lbs single handedly and limited breaks
  • Detail oriented; high organizational skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Attention to detail for high accuracy; Thorough in note taking and recording in system for accurate and detailed records
  • Uniform: medical scrubs or organization Tshirt with appropriate athletic pants or shorts; closed toed rubber shoes
  • Future phone line coverage. No drinking alcohol or mind altering prescriptions when on call.
  • Must have ability to work with a variety of personalities in a fast paced, often emotional environment and to stay focused on key goals considering such factors

Performance Indicators:

  • Records are available in the system in a timely manner
  • No down time
  • Assertive in seeking out what needs to be done
  • Prompt and clear communication for positive relationship between the organization, vet partners, and fosters
  • Positive feedback from fosters regarding timeliness and accuracy
  • Fosters will not have to come back repeatedly if all meds are pre-packed and sent with them with clear instructions; fosters will always have meds ready for when they’re due, with proper and accurate instructions so they do not have to contact medical line
  • Pickup meds are always ready and set out
  • Work stations are always left tidy and sanitized daily so that meds are not misplaced or scattered
  • Medical issues for dogs and cats are noticed by thorough exams and do not pose an issue later for lack of careful exams
  • All activities, meds, findings, etc are detailed in records for proper and accurate medical history
  • Vet partners are satisfied with performance and work relationship
  • Director of Clinic is satisfied and supported
  • Performance Reviews to be done bi-weekly during probationary period with Clinic Director
