Medical Assistant Job Description

The Medical Assistant will perform various duties under the direction of a provider in examination and treatment of patients. The position requires all tasks and duties to be performed in an accurate, efficient and organized matter.

TASKS AND DUTIES:

  • Greet and interview patients for the appropriate information
  • Perform vital signs including but not limited to weight, height, temperature, blood pressure, pregnancy tests, urine samples, o2, pulse, and others
  • Maintain, update and record medical records
  • Prepares exam rooms
  • Assist in the exam rooms with procedures, examinations, translation and any other instructions received from the providers.
  • Maintain all exam rooms organized, clean, and stocked with materials and supplies
  • Follow practice guidelines pertaining to infectious controls and hazards
  • Hand-off, set up and prepare medical instruments and materials
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments under direct supervision of the providers
  • Provide patient education materials
  • Assist in scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, verifying insurance eligibility, referrals forms, and prior authorizations
  • Maintains office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources
  • Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others
  • Identifying developmental needs of others and coaching or otherwise helping others to improve their knowledge or skills
  • Monitoring and reviewing information from materials and/or events, often to detect problems or to find out when things are finished
  • Making judgments about or assessing the value, importance, or quality of things or people
  • Translating or explaining what information means and how it can be understood by all of the related parties
  • Travel to all office locations when requested by the clinical supervisors

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing systems, filing and records management systems, forms, and other office procedures
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and clinical programming
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Knowledge of the CDC immunization schedule, preparation and timely disposal, and safe use of vaccines, needles and syringes
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including needs assessment techniques, quality service standards, and customer satisfaction evaluation techniques

ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Listen and read to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words, sentences, pictures, verbal, and letters
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas verbally and written so others understand
  • The ability to interpret and translate into the Spanish language
  • Correctly follow a given rule or set of rules in order to arrange things or actions in a certain order. The things or actions can include numbers, letters, words, pictures, procedures, sentences, and mathematical or logical operations.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems to come up with logical answers.
  • The ability to remember information such as words, numbers, pictures, and procedures
  • Time management
  • Working with new material or information to grasp its implications
  • The ability to teach others
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs
  • Concentrate and not be distracted while performing a task over a period of time
  • Exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects
  • The ability to efficiently shift back and forth between two or more activities or sources of information (such as speech, sounds, touch, or other sources)

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Medical Assistant Diploma and/or Medical Assistant Certification
  • CPR Certification
  • Medical Office experienced preferred
  • Fluent in Spanish
