Freeski Slopestyle Big Air National Development Coach

CLASSIFICATION: Year Round- Full Time
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Freeski Sport Director- Skogen Sprang
LOCATION: Based in Park City
TRAVEL: 50%
TOTAL COMPENSATION: $65k-$70k

U.S. Ski & Snowboard is seeking a Freeski Slopestyle Big Air National Development Coach. This is a full-time, beneficial position eligible for our full benefits package including medical insurance and retirement. For inquiries or help with your application, please email HR@usskiandsnowboard.org.

SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

The Slopestyle/Big Air Development Coach works in conjunction with the Director, Rookie Team Head Coach, Pro Team Coaches, and Sport Development Director to develop and manage all aspects of Slopestyle/Big Air development in the United States. Primary focus will be coaching the Slopestyle/Big Air Rookie Team, develop the curriculum/materials for the Slopestyle/Big Air Coaching Education program, and establishing a Talent ID philosophy for implementation at a regional level.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish technical, physical, and mental goals with each athlete for training and competition, creating an Athlete Development Plan, tracking and updating throughout the season.
  • Coordinate and assist Rookie Team travel, training, and competition schedule with Head Rookie Team Coach. Coach should travel with the athletes to assist with in-transit needs.
  • Develop and manage Rookie Team selection criteria and ensure appropriate education and communication of criteria with clubs, academies, regional programs, parents etc.
  • Manage travel expenses and develop project sheets that estimate costs per athlete and communicate, track, and balance the projects expenses with monthly reports with Team Manager.


Coaches Education

  • Assist in development of Slopestyle/Big Air coaches' education curriculum and materials in coordination with Sport Development Manager and Coaches Education Department
  • Conduct national education clinics for coaches as needed
    Talent ID
    • In coordination with Rookie Team Head Coach, Pro Team Coaches, Director, and Development Director, establish Talent ID philosophy and program.
    • Establish a strategic plan to implement Talent ID program at regional level.
    • Conduct education with clubs, academies, regional programs etc., on Talent ID philosophy.
    • Implement projects and camps with identified athletes including Project Gold and Jr. Project Gold

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Skiing to and from training and course venues. Access to all parts of a Slopestyle or Big Air Course Venue. Driving long distances all around the world with athletes.

COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE Position Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ yrs coaching experience in high-level domestic program or elite level international program.
  • Minimum level 200 Coaches Certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of coaching freestyle snowboarding athletes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage projects independently or in coordination with other coaches/programs
  • Accounting and budget management skills.
  • Position will be based in Park City, UT
  • Computer skills to include: Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Video Review/Edit knowledge
