Job Description

Department: Maintenance & Facilities

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Schedule: This first-shift position offers flexibility in start and end times to support work-life balance. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m., with alternative schedules available, such as a 7:00 or 8:00 a.m. start. While the role primarily follows a weekday daytime schedule, our 24/7 manufacturing operation occasionally requires overtime or adjusted hours, including evenings or weekends, to address urgent maintenance needs. Flexibility is a shared expectation—we offer scheduling options while relying on our maintenance team to help keep operations running when unexpected needs arise.

Compensation: The hourly pay range for this position is $31.00 to $37.00. Starting pay is based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications. Candidates whose backgrounds more closely align with the position’s requirements and who bring greater directly related experience may be considered toward the upper end of the range.

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Technician II independently performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on injection molding machines and related manufacturing equipment within established procedures and authorization limits. This position diagnoses mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems, supports equipment reliability, and assists with facility maintenance as assigned. Working with the Maintenance Supervisor, senior technicians, and production teams, the Maintenance Technician II resolves equipment issues, documents corrective actions, and helps develop less experienced technicians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and nonroutine preventive maintenance on injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment; identify deterioration, abnormal operation, and conditions requiring corrective work.
  • Independently troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment problems within established qualifications and authorization limits; escalate unfamiliar, high-risk, or unresolved issues.
  • Inspect, repair, and replace equipment components using technical manuals, schematics, diagnostic information, and approved procedures.
  • Collaborate with senior technicians on major repairs, equipment installations, upgrades, and complex troubleshooting activities.
  • Operate equipment and make authorized maintenance-related adjustments to verify repairs; coordinate with Process Technicians, Production, and Quality when work may affect approved processing parameters or product quality.
  • Support assigned facility maintenance and improvement work, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing tasks, in coordination with the Facilities Maintenance Technician; refer specialized or licensed work to appropriately qualified personnel.
  • Investigate recurring equipment problems, contribute to root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions that improve reliability and reduce repeat failures.
  • Document work performed, labor hours, components replaced, troubleshooting findings, and outstanding issues in the maintenance management system; provide clear equipment-status updates and shift handoffs.
  • Complete required post-repair inspections and functional checks and coordinate applicable approvals before equipment returns to production.
  • Recommend improvements to preventive maintenance tasks, work instructions, and equipment care based on inspection findings and repair history.
  • Follow applicable safety and quality-system procedures, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, required personal protective equipment, and maintenance documentation; promptly report unsafe conditions.
  • Provide practical guidance to entry-level technicians on assigned maintenance tasks and safe work methods and participate in ongoing technical development.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, electrical schematics, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams, and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to independently diagnose equipment faults, select appropriate repair methods, and recognize when escalation is necessary.
  • Working knowledge of root cause analysis and the relationship between equipment condition, manufacturing performance, and product quality.
  • Ability to perform maintenance-related equipment checks without independently changing controlled production processes.
  • Ability to prepare accurate maintenance records and use computerized maintenance management systems and standard communication tools.
  • Strong problem-solving, prioritization, and communication skills and ability to work effectively with technicians and production teams.
  • Knowledge of safe maintenance practices and applicable quality-system documentation requirements.
  • Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical certification or training in industrial maintenance, mechanical systems, electrical systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of maintenance experience in a plastic injection molding environment.
  • Demonstrated experience independently troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Experience documenting maintenance activities and supporting preventive maintenance programs required.
  • Experience in medical device component manufacturing or another regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and bend, reach, kneel, and maneuver around production and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and position tools, parts, and equipment using appropriate assistance or handling devices.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools and operate forklifts, cranes, or other material-handling equipment when trained and authorized.
  • Ability to access elevated or restricted equipment areas when assigned and appropriately trained; any confined-space entry must follow applicable authorization and entry procedures.
  • Ability to use computers, phones, and other communication tools to document work and coordinate repairs.
  • Ability to work around machinery noise, moving equipment, and temperature variations while following safety procedures and wearing required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to support occasional early morning, evening, or weekend maintenance assignments as business needs require.
  • Benefits:

Medical, dental, and vision insurance with employer contributions, Health Savings Account (HSA) with employer contributions, Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), employer-paid life and disability insurance, optional supplemental insurance, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), wellness resources and employee discounts, 401(k) retirement savings plan with company match, profit-sharing program, retirement planning resources, tuition reimbursement, generous paid time off (PTO), nine paid holidays, paid community service days, paid jury duty leave, employee appreciation events, and professional growth and advancement opportunities.
