Job Description

About Cyngn, Inc.

Based in Mountain View, CA, Cyngn is a publicly-traded autonomous technology company. We deploy self-driving industrial vehicles to factories, warehouses, and other facilities throughout North America. To build this emergent technology, we are looking for innovative, motivated, and experienced people to join us and move this field forward. If you like to build, tinker, and create with a team of trusted and passionate colleagues, then Cyngn is the place for you.

About the role

Cyngn is seeking a Senior NPI Engineer to turn hardware designs into controlled, repeatable builds. You will work with electrical, mechanical, firmware, operations, purchasing, quality, and contract manufacturing partners to ensure each build has the right parts, released documentation, clear status, and a traceable configuration. This is a hands-on individual contributor role with responsibility for coordinating execution and resolving problems across teams.

What you'll do

  • Plan prototype, engineering validation, pilot, and production introduction builds with quantities, milestones, owners, material readiness, and exit criteria.
  • Maintain BOM structure and revision accuracy in PLM; reconcile engineering and manufacturing BOMs, approved manufacturer parts, alternates, and released build packages with design owners.
  • Track parts by exact part number, revision, quantity, supplier, PO, expected delivery, receipt, on-hand balance, and build allocation. Distinguish ordered, received, available, and kitted material.
  • Own shortage and kit readiness reviews; coordinate purchasing and supplier follow-up, surface long-lead risks, and route proposed substitutions through engineering approval.
  • Publish build status with planned versus actual completion, blockers, owners, recovery dates, and configuration by unit or lot.
  • Coordinate engineering change requests and orders, impact reviews, approvals, revision effectivity, inventory disposition, rework, and implementation confirmation at the CM.
  • Manage day-to-day CM build coordination, including schedule, capacity, documentation, readiness reviews, issue escalation, and action closure.
  • Work with engineering and quality on assembly instructions, travelers, test requirements, defect tracking, root cause, corrective action, and build retrospectives.
  • Maintain traceable as-built records and support the transition from prototype builds to repeatable manufacturing, including cost and yield visibility.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ownership of NPI or manufacturing builds for complex electromechanical products, including material readiness, execution, and issue closure.
  • Hands-on BOM, revision, configuration, and ECR/ECO experience using a PLM or equivalent controlled system.
  • Ability to reconcile material and shortage data, establish build allocation, and maintain a reliable build forecast.
  • Experience coordinating contract manufacturers and resolving technical, schedule, and material issues across functions.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and assembly documentation and communicate clear decisions, risks, owners, and recovery plans.
Bonus Qualifications
  • Robotics, industrial vehicles, automotive, or similar low-volume complex hardware experience.
  • Arena PLM or similar; ERP/MRP, spreadsheets, Jira, and manufacturing documentation systems.
  • Experience with PCBA, harnesses, mechanical assemblies, supplier quality, DFM/DFA, and yield or cost improvement.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent relevant practical experience.
Benefits & Perks
  • Health benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision) through Aetna, Kaiser Permanente, and Guardian, with multiple plan tiers to choose from
  • Ancillary benefits including accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity plans (Voya)
  • Company-paid basic life insurance, plus voluntary (supplemental) life for you and your dependents
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance
  • HSA and FSA (Health & Dependent Daycare)
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • 1:1 Health Concierge
  • Company 401(k)
  • Commuter Benefits
  • Flexible PTO policy
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Daily lunches for in-office employees and fully-stocked kitchen with snacks and beverages
