Ask a Product Manager: What Can I See About My Competitors? | JobTarget

Written by JobTarget Team | Aug 19, 2026, 3:22:19 PM

Each installment of this series brings a real question from a recruiter or HR practitioner straight to the JobTarget product team. This month, we're covering a set of questions that came in together from customers digging into JobTarget Intelligence for the first time.

  1. Ask a Product Manager: How Does My Programmatic Budget Actually Get Used?
  2. Ask a Product Manager: Do I Need to Take Requisitions Down and Repost?
  3. Ask a Product Manager: How Do I Reach a Niche Role Through Programmatic Without Pulling in Generic Applicants?

Q: What information can I actually get about my competitors through JobTarget Intelligence?

A: JobTarget Intelligence pulls this from the Competitors+ report, and it goes further than most recruiters expect. Pick the companies you're hiring against, and the report hands back what they're posting and what they're paying for it, plus how long those roles are staying open. Filter by industry, company, and location to narrow the view to exactly the competitors and roles you care about.

That question tends to arrive with three others attached, so here's the full picture.

If a role isn't converting, the fastest explanation is usually sitting in what your competitors are posting for it.

What's the difference between the Market+ and Competitor+ dashboards?

Market+ tells you about your market. Competitors+ tells you about the specific companies it includes. Market+ combines industry benchmarks, job-specific performance, and location-based insights into one view, so you can see how a role type is trending across your industry or region without naming a single employer. Competitors+ does the opposite: you name the companies, and the report hands back their posting activity, pay, and timelines. Use Market+ when you want the baseline. Use Competitors+ when you want to know what a specific rival is doing.

How competitive is my local market?

That's a Market+ question. Filter the report to your industry, job title, and location, and you'll get fill-time benchmarks, compensation ranges, and hiring-trend data specific to that geography rather than a national average that may not reflect what's actually happening where you're recruiting.

What are competitors paying for a specific role in a specific location?

This is where Competitors+ earns its keep. Say you're hiring Registered Nurses in Dallas and want to know what the hospital systems and staffing agencies down the street are offering. Filter Competitors+ by industry, company, and location, and the report surfaces the posted salary ranges those competitors are advertising for that role in that market, plus how many are actively hiring for it and how long those postings have stayed open. If competitors are consistently paying above what you're offering, that shows up directly, and it's usually the fastest explanation for why a role isn't converting.

Where to start

If you're not sure which report to open first, start with the question you're actually trying to answer. "How's my market moving?" points you to Market+. "What is this specific competitor doing?" points you to Competitors+. Both live directly in the Reports App, so there's no separate login or waiting on a report to land in your inbox. Your JobTarget Relationship Manager can also walk you through your specific filters if you want help zeroing in on the right view for your roles.
