Job Description

Position Description: JOB SUMMARY
This is a position for an early career engineer in our control systems and instrumentation group. The position requires a capacity to develop a strong technical ability to perform engineering tasks, ability to work independently with guidance, and strong communication skills in written, spoken, and personal formats. A successful candidate may desire either a technical career path, or a path directed toward leadership and management.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Provide instrument engineering for small to large capital and maintenance projects; specify and size instrumentation in all applications of industrial control: flow, pressure, level, temperature
  • Read and understand basic project P&IDs
  • Develop basic procurement specifications, documentation, data sheets
  • Perform detailed vendor document reviews
  • Track and manage ones work according to an assigned budget and schedule
  • Prepare detailed design of projects in compliance with governing codes, regulations, and client standards
  • Create instrument and I/O lists for project scope, and review loop drawings
  • Specify and design infrastructure for industrial communication and control networks
  • Specify and design wiring, conduit, and cable tray methods for NEC-hazardous classified areas
  • Develop basic Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimate Material Take-Offs (MTO)
  • Contribute to detailed specifications and construction packages
  • Write detailed construction scope of work documents for basic projects
  • Perform quality checks on ones own work
  • Adhere to Anvils Project Services Quality System (PSQS)
  • Work within a small team of engineers and designers
  • Work with other technical resource groups and project management to meet the requirements of a given project
  • Develop and foster working relationships with vendor and client representatives

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES - TECHNICAL
  • Read and understand basic Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Specify and size basic field instrumentation: gauges, transmitters
  • Basic understanding of PLC and DCS I/O systems, wiring, and functionality
  • Basic understanding of industrial networks
  • Understand and apply basic engineering principles as they apply to instrument specification: material science, fluid dynamics, material and energy balances, and basic circuit design.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial equipment (pumps, vessels, heaters, flares, etc.)

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES - OTHER
  • Prioritize work based on guidance from team leader
  • Able to read and understand a simple project schedule
  • Perform effectively in a team environment, both in-person and remotely
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Highly detail oriented with a strong, self-driven work ethic
  • Able to identify areas of personal technical strengths and weaknesses, ask for help when needed, and quickly learn new responsibilities
  • Able to evaluate equipment in the field, including climbing ladders, flights of stairs, etc.
  • Able to travel to remote work sites on occasion
  • Strong computer skills - Microsoft Applications

PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Basic DCS and/or PLC programming experience
  • Experience working on-site at an industrial facility in maintenance, reliability, or projects groups
  • Some experience sizing and specifying control valves and regulators
  • Understand and participate in Process Hazard Assessments (PHAs)
  • Understand high-level control documents such as Cause & Effects diagrams, Logic diagrams, and block diagrams.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
  • B.S. in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical or Control Systems Engineering - required
  • 1-5 years of professional experience within the oil and gas or related industry - preferred
  • E.I.T. Certification - preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Able to sit/stand, type, and perform computer work for long periods of time.
  • Frequent use of hands/fingers for computer entry and answering phones.
  • Able to perform occasional bending, lifting, and reaching.
  • Must be able to lift 15 lbs if necessary.
  • Able to work in heavy industrial facilities: climb ladders, work off elevated surfaces, and walk over uneven surfaces while wearing required PPE
